All right, so, here's the thing. I've been looking for someone every jump, someone who was real close to me. His name's Delta. So happens he's an AI. An AI who lives on a data chip that was physically implanted in my body. See, in my way of thinking, that makes it a little different from him just being missing, okay. Whoever brought all of us here, had to take his chip out of my neck and put it somewhere. And the more I think about it, the more I don't want it just lying around here somewhere.

Point is, I know there's a search party forming to find some of the people who have disappeared. I've got skills that can help you, if you're all willing to help me look for D. If you're in on that whole that whole thing let me know if that sounds like a good deal.

Well, I don't know if suffering is the right word. But we pretty much shared a headspace for three, four years. I think that proves having him was pretty safe.

You lived with an AI incorporated into your head for four years? I'm guessing it wasn't anything too terrible if you're missing it now. Hm. That's interesting.

Not too terrible, no. It took some getting used to at first but...well, you know how people use the expression 'my better half'? It was literally like that.

Generally speaking, I thought that expression was reserved for romantic interests. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding the expression.

Nah, I've heard people say that about their sibling or best friend, too. That's what he's like to me, a best friend. More than that.

And you're not concerned about him trying to kill you? Or anything like that?

Nah, he's not that kind of AI. Way I understand it, he can't go rampant. That's the only reason he'd ever be a danger, so I don't have anything to worry about.

Your people have such confidence in their AI shackling? Or is it just trust?

You'll have to forgive me my questions. Where I come from, the dangers of synthetic intelligences are warned about as often as the topic comes up. [Never mind that AIs are technically currently invading her galaxy, making her extra cautious of synthetics.]

Hey, D and I were partners. There was no shackling involved. And yeah, there is a lot of trust between an AI and its host. In fact, where I come from, people are more a danger to AIs than the other way around.
