untamedantinous: (shut up grantaire (or marius))

[Here, fellow passengers of the TQ, is one French revolutionary.  He is not amusing himself with bothering Marius today, instead he is in his own rooms, looking somewhat disgruntled.  ....For him, that's pretty normal, at least.]

A question for you, passengers.  More specifically, those who are skilled in the use of these ...communication devices.  I have heard there is a library one can access on them, but I
cannot seem to do so.  Assistance would certainly be appreciated.

If that is not the case, then simply tell me if and where I may find the philosophy books aboard this vessel.  I am of a mind to read some Rousseau.

Merci.

I'd be more suited to telling you where you can find a...book of sorts, rather than on these devices.

I don't blame you at all. These are a little different from actual books, but...better.

[ Some directions are included here. ]

Last I checked it was here, at least.

They aren't too helpful, actually. A lot of the offered works aren't... any close to Rousseau.

Touched on, yes. One I've enjoyed when I wasn't here.

[ A pause. He's squinting while combing through his memory. ]

You'll find all sorts of books there. Some stories such as I've never heard them in my time. Although I've never heard of this Rousseau, admittedly.

Allow me to refresh your Rousseau for you:

Blah blah man is naturally boring blah blah society makes him a miserable fucker blah something about ladies staying at home to be a cook in the bedroom and a whore in the kitchen

That's about the main of it I believe

[ ACTUALLY Cambridge has given his 1803 editions of Rousseau and Voltaire to someone else on board, but he fancies being a bit of a bastard. Sorry, E. ]

I'm quite familiar with the libraries; I spend most of my time there. If someone else hasn't already offered, I can show you where everything is, how to access it, and so on.

[A beat. In very, very accented (and awful) French, he adds:]

Where are you from?

I--

[He hesitates for a few seconds, and then gives up.]

Sorry. I haven't studied French since the summer, and even then it was a rather idle thing. I'm from England, obviously, 1975. 1832-- that wasn't near the French revolution, wasn't it? Or-- no, no, that was the late 1700's, sorry.

Er-- anyway, yes. If you're not busy, I could pick you up now.

What is Rosseau? [ Sorry, Enjolras. Cibo knows literally nothing about literature. Or books at all really.

She's also not very good with nationalities either but she kind of recognizes that accent. ]

You're French, right...? Is that what it's called...?

Have you visited the library yet, Mister Enjolras? You may find it rather strange, but there's a number of fascinating texts.
