[ the video feed begins, but the girl speaking isn't immediately visible. instead, you're treated at first to what looks like the corner of her desk, and the straps of what you can guess might be her mask. one that remains safely offscreen. ] Anyway I don't wanna get too chatty, so lemme just run us right up to our next calendar- [ which is exactly what pops up a beat later. ]

Alright, lemme break it down here.

Someother-tember the 8th is Wolf's Day! Apparently celebrated by, and I quote, [ is she joking? it's hard to tell. ] throwing sticks, rolling around, and biting for fun. Also eating. There's supposed to be eating.

Someother-tember the 12th back by popular demand, is Slap a Lawyer on the Ass day. I'm not gonna question anybody's taste, okay? It's space, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Someother-tember the 23rd &24th for you lushes is Nog Day- which out of the mercy of my heart has stretched to encompass the next day, to nurse your hangovers and mope generally about how much this place sucks and you aren't at home. And probably drink more because hey, why not, you know?

Someother-tember the 25th is Sinterklaas, where you can throw your amalgamation of miscellaneous holidays together into one massive whole.

Then last but not least, Someother-tember the 29th is Awkwardly hug a Josh Day which is pretty self explanatory, in my opinion.

I'm toying with the idea of next month having a pin the nametag on the squinty-eyes [ she may be referring to the plethora of Joseph Gordon Levitt faces, but you know, she isn't elaborating, so take that as you will ] and probably a sad, sad belated new year's party for all the oldbies kicking around- but you know, if I put like all those holidays on here it pretty much just would've been one giant month of getting drunk for faintly justifiable reasons. Blah blah insert too much of a good thing proverb here. Anyway.

Do we have to be into them? I thought we were just prone to them.

[ off screen, her fingers drum. bemused but no less curious. ] How do I know I can trust you? With our little secret I mean.

A bit of both if you want to be a true teenage girl. Otherwise someone ends up asking why you don't want to fall over the guy who does some elaborate gesture to win your heart.

[ and that earns an actual laugh out of Lydia. ] Have I given away anything since we started talking? Even beyond that, you know my best friend and if anything, she could tell you that I'm trustworthy. Besides, it hurts me more to tell everyone than it does to keep it a secret. It only makes sense to keep my lips sealed.

Though that does beg the question of can I trust you. I don't like being lied to at all. Bad experiences and all.

Because he's probably gay.

[ the grin that's kept itself over her features, somewhere between mischievous satisfied, changes at the edges. Hayley's hands slip from the device as she rests her elbows on the desk, watching the feed. she doesn't really have a reason to say it- not when the majority of their conversations have been superficial- playful things at best.

there's a quiet honesty in her expression, smile aside. ]

I lie. Alot.

Doesn't mean he's prone to those gestures. Take it from someone who knows.

[ it doesn't mean what most people would probably get from it, but Lydia figures that Hayley will catch the meaning. there's a pause where Lydia just looks at the device for a while, almost as if she's studying Hayley and her mannerisms to figure out what she needs to say next.

expect, maybe she already knows. and for a brief moment Lydia looks almost bashful before she smiles. ]

Everyone lies. It just matters who you're lying to and why.

[ a pause. ]

Would you lie to me? Have you lied to me?

[ there's another conversation taking place here, and hayley is neither blind enough, or naive enough to believe otherwise. what it means however, in the end, is open to interpretation, and largely dependent on lydia herself. hayley wouldn't call herself invested, because that has ugly connotations. but she's curious. and maybe that means more. ]

Yes. And not yet.

[ if Hayley is invested to any degree, then it means Lydia did her job and that what she wanted to happen did. but perhaps that not the most important thing at hand right now and the more important thing, the thing that's always important is whether or not she'll be lied to. ]

It's not really about want. [ her gaze moves to the side as she settles back into her chair, half curls in on herself as she examines her fingernails. they're getting too long. she has a young woman's hands. looks too close to her age. they need to be bitten short. ]

I'll do what I have to. Something something that saying about trusting a dishonest man to be dishonest.

It's always about wants and needs. And a dishonest man will always say he needs to lie. [ she notices these things, how Hayley's eyes move the side and how she's focusing on her finger nails. it makes her wonder if she's getting involved in something she shouldn't because it could backfire so horribly on her. ]

And even a dishonest man can be honest when it suits him. Do you want me to trust you? Or need me to, I guess.

Well if a dishonest man says he needs to lie, is that honesty or dishonesty? Is he honest by default, for calling himself dishonest? Or is his perception of honesty skewed by virtue being dishonest?

[ her head tilts to one side, and just as abruptly as her hands fall from view, Hayley's eyes lock onto the feed. ]

No I don't need you to trust me. But I want you to because convincing people to trust you is freaking exhausting. But if I was totally interested in your trust, question still stands. Would I have told you I lie? Or would I have lied and expected you to guess it?

It's neither, because it's what he believes which, while it may be a lie to everyone else, it's the truth to him. You lie enough and supposedly you start to believe it. It's why if you're going to make a game being a dishonest man you need to know what is the truth and what isn't for you. Of course, that's just my opinion.

[ Lydia's own eyes hold Hayley's gaze before she shrugs a little with a small upturn of her lips. ]

You would have, because telling someone you lie gives the person you're telling that to a false sense of security. Lying and expecting them to guess it holds a bit too much chance. Especially since, if they can't, they'll either think you're lying all the time even if you're telling them something that has to be the truth or they're just be too put out that they didn't figure it out and just end up being offended.

You wouldn't chance that.
