I know it's late and you're probably both exhausted and you might not get this until later but I wanted to tell you right away - I didn't shift. I'm not a werewolf! I was a little jittery for a while, like I felt.. feverish, and moody, but it might have just been nerves. It was probably nerves. I never felt out of control or anything like that, and I never changed. Not even a little bit. So, I think I'm immune to the bite. My mutation probably... I dunno! It fought it. Even if there's some magic to it, the- the curse, like you said, I guess maybe my body just.. rejected it. [ she pauses, and it's just so she can huff with disbelief ] It makes no sense, and I really don't understand it at all. But I had to let you guys know. I'm okay. I'm fine, I promise, I'm totally fine.

Now I just need to come up with some story as to where the scar came from.

Last jump I received something in my locker that I think might be of interest some of you. ..Maybe. Actually, I'm not really sure if this is something more for the science labs or for you guys in the medbay. But, um. Either way! [ someone's a little nervous. she's only told Jesse about this, and she's not.. sure if it's going to be seen as a negative or positive yet ] Basically, back home, a friend of mine was trying to make a serum that would normalize my appearance. I would still be a shapeshifter, but I wouldn't have my blue natural form anymore. At the time, it was what I wanted. So he took a sample of my blood and tried to use my X-gene, my mutation ..whatever, to cook up this serum, right? But it didn't turn out right, it actually enhanced his abilities when he injected it. His mutation- He started out with mutated feet, and he's super smart, and really strong, but the serum ended up sending it all into overdrive. He's healthy! More than, actually. But the serum made him... transform. A little bit. [ A LOT ACTUALLY BUT WELL ] My point though, is that this serum can enhance abilities. And I haven't tried it yet, I haven't even shown anyone.

But I was thinking maybe you guys could take a look at it. See if you can make sense of it? Because if it can enhance my abilities, boost me up to full strength like I was back home instead of dulled down like I am here, I want to take it. But only if I know it'll work, and that it's safe.

Does that sound like something any of you would have some luck with?

It transformed him, yes. His mutation isn't like mine, he can't shift his appearance, but the serum changed him pretty drastically. But again, he's healthy, it didn't hurt him. In fact, I think he looks even better than he did before. And he's more powerful, too. The serum didn't do what it was supposed to, but it didn't cause a negative change, either.

Well, basically since I arrived on the ship, I haven't been as strong as I was back home. I can't hold a shift as long as I could back home, it takes a lot more effort. I've gotten used to it, but I'd rather... not feel like this. Not if I can fix it. And I know I'm not the only one.

[ He's a bit doubtful about the 'no negative change' thing, because that all sounds slightly subjective. He's stronger as a wolf, but that definitely doesn't make it better. ]

The change was purely physical, right? No psychological impact?

If it was supposed to force you to take on an appearance that wasn't your default, then that means it was probably messing with triggering a specific change instead of suppressing one - or if it was supposed to suppress something, his body could have responded to it like an anti-virus, caused the target mutation to fight back.

[ Wow just word vomit on her. Here, have some skepticism instead. ] What I'm saying is that the most likely outcome is that it'd lock you into a specific shift. I really doubt it's as simple or nice as it enhancing whatever baseline stats you've got.

-- Well. [ science is weird. ] Hank told me that the serum was supposed to attack the mutated cells, normalize them without screwing up our abilities. But it just.. enhanced them instead.

... so he thought the appearance and the abilities were isolated? [ Right, never mind, she doesn't do the science talk. ] I'll take a look at it. I'm sure you'll have other volunteers, too.

I guess, yeah. That was one of the first things I asked - if it would only effect our appearance or both our appearance and our abilities, because I wouldn't have let him try it out if I thought it would hurt our abilities somehow. I guess he thought he figured out a way to only change one, but it ended up... not working out that way at all.

[ she's shrugging again though, even though he can't see it, her uncertainty is pretty clear in her tone ] I was given two full doses in my locker, so I figure I'll give one for you guys to look at, split it up however you need to to run tests o it? And then I'll have the second in case it's actually beneficial. Maybe we can replicate it or something.

Sounds good. I don't know how easy it'll be to predict its effect on people who aren't from the same place you are - it seems like the same rules don't apply... multi-universally? [ ... does that makes sense. ]

But hopefully we can at least help get you back to your full potential. You'll probably have to sign a contract stating you'll only use your powers for good, though. [ Totally a joke. Mostly. ]

Honestly? I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin again. Completely comfortable. It's a little weird thinking some outside force has control over my abilities, you know? ..I'm trying to join the security team, so this kind of thing has been on my mind. I wanna know I'll be able to do whatever it takes to help around here. [ ... ] So yeah, I guess I do plan on using my powers for good. [ the nosescrunch is actually heard in her voice. "HUH WEIRD" ]

[ Okay well that's slightly cute. It's like hearing a kid say he wants to be a fireman when he grows up. She can probably hear the amused smile in his voice, even if it's tempered by a serious topic. ] Yeah, I definitely feel you on the comfortable part. I'm pretty sure half the people on the ship are aiming for that.

Maybe, if this serum works out, we can help them somehow. Giving them control back might be exactly what they need.

Just my brother, no surprise there. I'm glad though, because he'll probably recognize Hank's work and know where to start with it, maybe. You probably know him already, he works in the labs - Charles Xavier? He's a, um. Geneticist. That's his thing.

I've seen him around, but I haven't met him. I'll get in touch with him if I think of anything worthwhile as far as testing goes. It's definitely not my specialty, but I've done some work with mutations before.
