◎third journey | video;
[ he's sitting in the oxygen gardens, a wooden pipe in his mouth and large white smoke-rings curling from the end of the pipe. there's an open book in his lap and there's a lingering weariness in his posture, despite how relaxed he seems.
still, when frodo speaks up, his voice is fond, light, moving his pipe away from his lips. ]
Where I come from, smoking pipeweed is considered an art. Making good smoke-rings like this--there's nothing quite like it.
[ frodo pauses; glances at his book then. ]
My dearest friend told me that he wondered if anything we've done would ever be put into 'great stories.'
"The stories that really mattered, that stayed with you." As a lad I spent most of my life reading about stories, learning them and I'd always had my favorites with my Uncle. He went on a many great adventures.
[ he smiles quietly ]
Sometimes stories can be..quite different than we imagine them to be when we begin them. The same could be said of adventures.
Do you have a story like that? One that's stayed with you. Perhaps something you knew as a child, or one you found in a book. Perhaps it isn't a story but a moment that you've shared and relived with others over and over again. I'd be glad to hear them.

I don't know how to turn it into a good story for you.
[ what a strange turn of phrase. at her next words he shakes his head quickly ]
No, no Miss Cameron you certainly don't have to share such an experience with me. I've no desire to bring unpleasant memories to mind.
Could you tell me a happy memory?
I would be glad to. Would you care to know how my last birthday went? It was quite a celebration.
Tell me everything, Frodo.
Very well. How shall I begin? My Uncle and I have the same birthday. That year he turned one hundred and eleventy one. As for myself, it was my 50th birthday. Now not to be prideful, but the Bagginses, my family, has always been rather well-to-do. Particularly ever since my Uncle's adventures, he made quite the fortune.
Now this year it was a grand party, held at the Party Tree.
What's a Party Tree like?
[ he scribbles on a spare piece of paper, '111'. he then smiles slightly ]
It's a great tree just outside of Hobbiton. Usually held for parties, which is why it's given it's name. We spread out tables and hang decorations around the branches.
[She smiles at the description of the tree. Those are a rare thing in the future (her future) and she decides one ought to play a pivotal role in parties here. For John Connor's sake, if nothing else.] That sounds like a magical night.
[ he laughs ]
My cousins, Merry and Pippin--ended up setting off one of the fireworks--as they are a wizard's fireworks, when it went up into the sky it flew around the tent in the shape of a dragon!
You can imagine my Uncle's fright as he had once spoken with a dragon once before!
[ his smile fades slightly ]
It was a good night. One of the happiest I can remember in some time.
I've never seen fireworks like that. Did your uncle talk to a real dragon? Or was it just a big lizard?
We should have a party. Something to make happier memories. Not a lot of people here have those.
[ he laughs ]
No, a true, real dragon. Bilbo played a game of riddles with him, even! As for parties..yes, I think that's a fine idea.
