[ Second video, same as the first – set up on a desk, as formal as these things can get. Except for the fact that Josh is the one talking, so there’s absolutely nothing formal or professional about the transmission. ]

So I hate to play Space Meemaw already, but seriously, what’s with the standards of hygiene around here? If I have to put a chores rota on the tenth level fridge, I’ll be severely disappointed. I feel like it’s not unreasonable to ask that a society capable of interstellar travel do its own dishes.

[ A pause for consideration, then- ]

... although I guess "interstellar travel" might be a bit generous. This thing probably isn't the shining beacon of achievement they were going for.

So is this blind date happening or what? Because I’m not saying there’s a deadline, but there’s a deadline. [ The more-irritable-than-usual kind of deadline. ]

I think that's quite a good idea, actually. Research is always a good idea, and, frankly, it's fascinating to learn there's other sorts of werewolves. I mean, Derek and Isaac, they regard it as a gift, not a disease-- but in my world, it's seen as one of the worst things that can happen to a man.

Gotta say I agree with your world on that one. I get that it's different for them, but - anything that takes away any of your self-control isn't a gift. My world mostly views it as fiction. Except for - um, pockets. There are some groups that are in-the-know, but they're not particularly human themselves.

But you're - Isaac said you were changing soon? Is that a thing that's already happened, or... ?

I think I rather terrified him, to be honest. I don't think he was expecting it.

Huh. I bet. [ He's thinking of Derek's cocksure texts about having 'seen worse' when Josh tried to warn him; maybe he'll have a little perspective now. ]

Did you - were you in the same room?

[He nods.]

My room. It's . . . not precisely a pleasant process to watch, as I'm sure you know. And after seeing what they're like . . .

[A beat. He adds:]

I don't blame them for thinking it a gift. If I could control it like they do, I would as well.

I don't know enough about their... condition to judge, really. [ Except he does judge; he still can't understand why you'd want it, to be a monster at all. But he came to a truce with Isaac on it, so he keeps it to himself for now. Even so, his tone doesn't hide much.]

But you did it in your room? Was there anything left afterwards? I changed in my house once, and it - there wasn't much left intact afterwards.

Well, yes, but you're far older than I am; I'm only half grown. And M-- the wolf isn't built to do much damage to a ship like this. Besides that, there are spells that can be performed-- not on me, but the ship itself, to strengthen the walls and make it seem like it's a grassy area, which makes the wolf a little calmer.

[ Far older? Josh makes a slightly offended face, but he's over it in a second. Right, talking to a teenager here. He also manages to take the spells talk in stride, considering he was just talking to a would-be witch recently. What did she call that, Illusion magic? He'll believe it when he sees it. ]

... right. Bedsheets and things, though, it doesn't - I mean, mine's kind of like a cat with a roll of toilet paper. It can't be left around anything except solid walls. [ An awkward pause at the fact that he just made a woefully inadequate analogy between the wolf and a housecat, then he continues. ]

But Derek and Isaac, do you remember anything about their shifts? I've seen the eyes and the claws, but - that's not seriously it, is it?

I don't know. That's all I've seen, but they definitely are tied to the full moon-- Derek mentioned being able to control his during the full moon, so perhaps they fully transform then, or something like that.

Huh. [ There's a thoughtful pause while he considers it, then; ] Man, I know this might be petty, but if a manicure and Halloween eyes is the extent of their wolf issues, I am going to hold an irrational grudge.

[He barks out a laugh, startled and amused-- and then immediately covers his mouth, trying to hide it.]

Ah-- I don't think it's quite their fault. Even if it is a bit unfair.

[ Remus's easy good humor provokes a smile, even if Josh was mostly serious about being annoyed at the differences. ]

Yes, hence the petty qualifier. Don't worry, I'll try not to let it affect our professional relationship. [ Never going to call it what it is - pack dynamics. But then there's another pause as he's distracted by something off screen. ]

Ah, I should - I should go. It's getting late. [ He doesn't elaborate, bother with the usual excuses; the creeping anxiety and blunt exit is probably familiar to another wolf, doesn't need to be explained. ] But it was nice meeting you, finally. [ And he means that. It was nice to talk to another wolf that wasn't... well, weird. ]

Oh-- oh, yes. Good luck. Um. If you need anything--

Yeah, totally, I'll let you know. [ Man werewolves are socially awkward sometimes. ] Thanks. I'm sure I'll see you around. [ You know, at pack meetings, the usual. ]
