[As the camera clicks on, those who know Remus will notice how tired he looks. Not simply as if he hasn't gotten a night's sleep, but truly exhausted-- as if he's been on a long journey, or suffered some great hardship. The circles beneath his eyes are too dark, and there's a long pink scar forming on his right cheek.

Still, he gives the camera a smile, albeit a tired and nervous one.]

Ah-- hello. I do hope this is working properly; I haven't precisely had much practice with cameras. But-- yes. My name is Remus Lupin, and, as most of you know, I've been technically on-board the Tranquility for some months now. However, I've no memory of this-- really, it's as if this is my first month. So please, if I knew you but you haven't heard from me in a while, it's nothing to do with you, I assure you.

[The smile fades now.]

Which brings me to my second point. I've, ah, heard it said that I was rather free with this information, so I suppose it's no longer a secret. But--

[He glances behind him uncertainly, as if seeking support from someone unseen, and then nods.]

Well. I'm a werewolf. No jokes, please, I assure you I've heard them all. And-- well, we're taking every safety precaution we know, Sirius and I, but-- just so you know. I'll post up what days I'm dangerous, simply so no one stops by my room while I'm changed.

[He gives them a thin smile.]

And finally: a simple question. How many people, precisely, have duplicates or twins aboard the ship? Not biologically, I mean, but-- people who look like that, for no discernible reason at all.

Staying in my room. Locking the door. My friend will be putting spells on it, to ensure I don't leave it.

May I ask who you are?

Klaus. We spoke briefly once, a few months back - [some amusement in his tone] that name of yours is a difficult one to forget.

Spell? Your friend is a witch then?

Ah. A friend, then?

[Remus relaxes visibly, a little smile coming to his face.]

And no, no-- he's a wizard. Rather a brilliant one, although if he knew I'd told you it'd go straight to his head.

Acquaintances really - but you could call me friend. [Planting seeds while he's forced to wait. Why not.]

Then I'll be sure to hold my tongue if we meet. [but the humor slips from his tone after that.] Has anyone given you any trouble for this revelation of yours?

Oh-- no, not really. Which is a surprise, honestly, I rather expected-- well. Far more vehement reactions than I've gotten.

Ah-- is there a reason you've set this to private?

[There's no pause in answering the question.] I err on the side of caution in these matters. They might show you a kind face, but not everyone is as well-intentioned as they might seem. Not when it comes to those like us.

[He brightens.]

You're a werewolf too, then? But you're quite right-- I mean, Miles Edgeworth is trying to convince me that there won't be any prejudice, but-- really, I highly doubt that's true.

I am, in part. My own transformation isn't bound by moon cycles. [Or anything.]

None at all? [so very dryly] What an fantastical world Mr. Edgeworth must come from, I hope to visit it someday. [and then what sounds like a sincere offer] But since we're here instead of there - if you do run into any trouble, please, don't hesitate to contact me.

I won't, thank you.

[While he can't see the grin Remus aims at the device, he can most certainly hear it in his voice.]

So-- if I might ask-- what is it bound by? If anything?

It's no trouble, Remus. We all need to look out for one another.

[Of course.]

My own will is what controls it.

[He sucks in a soft breath.]

Entirely? You don't-- I mean, you could potentially not change at all, if you wanted? Oh my god, that's-- that's amazing!

Entirely. [a beat] How long have you been turning?

Ten years now, give or take a few months.

How did it first happen?

[He sounds curious. The transformation process must be different, unless Remus managed to kill another man when he was only a child.]

How it always does in my world-- I was bitten. I don't know by whom; someone out of his mind, I suspect. He bit me as I was playing in the yard, and-- well. There's no cure for a werewolf bite, though my parents looked.

Yourself? Or-- sorry, were you born that way?

Not quite. The curse is passed down from parent to child, but a man could live his entire life without realizing what he carries in his blood - a reason why the number of werewolves in my world has dwindled down. It must be triggered first, by taking the life of a human.

[He sucks in a soft breath.]

That's-- Merlin, that's awful. Did-- I mean, was yours an accident?

Most of them tend to be.

[To imply yes, it was an accident. In a way it was, he had no idea what would happen when he killed that man. He continues, almost distractedly.]

The pain from the transformation, at first I thought it was punishment for my crime.

[His voice relaxes as he accepts that lie.]

It's-- it's rather easy to think that, I should imagine. I thought I was going to die, the first time I went through it.

I'm sorry that it's something you're still forced to endure, my friend.

And you as well. Does it always hurt, for you?

It does.

[But don't feel so sorry for him. He's only had to do it twice.]

[He laughs a little, entirely unamused.]

It a pity. There's so many differences between all of us, but that seems to be the constant between all of us. Just pain and misery.
