[ The voice is obviously female but beyond that it sounds a little strange, flat, as though someone has run it through a computer program to strip out all other identifying characteristics. The computer program, if that's what it is, can't disguise her sing-song, amused tone, though. ]

That's too bad. And here I was looking forward to the chance to stretch my legs. Too much time spent staring at the same walls and faces is bound to make anyone a little cabin-fever-ish.

Not that I don't enjoy all of your company, but I've never been one for staying in the same place too long.

[ And then, abruptly, the audio feed runs into an encryption wall. ]

[ If you're coming at this from a known device used by Ward or Resnik, the encryption is about as strong as Kasumi knows how to make them. But for everyone else, a light breeze and a teensy bit of computer know-how is enough to knock it over. She's not interested in keeping people out, just in finding out who'd break a private encryption just to see what's behind it. ]

It's probably time to introduce myself officially. My name is Kasumi Goto and as it happens, I used to specialize in getting things for people that they can't get for themselves. Let's call it "procurement," okay?

Now, whatever our hosts have to say about it, I'm planning to hitch a ride out to that station to see what there is to see. If anyone needs something "procured" while I'm there -- something you don't particularly want to tell our hosts about -- now's the time to speak up.

Well, you know what they say about cats and mice and play. There might not be another chance to go poking around in all of Tranquility's corner without attracting unwanted attention for a while.

That's true. And from the looks of it, I ought to -- tag along with one of the other Engineers. He's sure to get in trouble otherwise.

[ It's hard to convey an appropriate level of sympathy when your eyes aren't visible, but Kasumi does her best with a little grimace. ]

Oh no, babysitting? [ She pauses, thoughtfully. ] I bet he won't be the only one. I hope things don't go too crazy while we're gone.

[Tali's good at reading body language anyway, by necessity.]

[Don't worry, she's bringing her pistol.]

Same here. Hopefully, in a few hours, we'll have a better idea of what we're dealing with, on the ship and off. [ She hesitates and then her voice dips down into a more earnest tone. ] I know I don't need to tell you, but be careful, all right?

I know I don't need to tell you not to accept stupidly dangerous tasks for people we don't know all that well.

[She lets her mask tilt to the side a little, though, and then nods.]

I've got my pistol, and my drone doesn't seem to have any interference here. Keep me posted.

Stupidly dangerous? Who, me? [ She maintains her look of faux-innocence for about thirty seconds before grinning. ] I'll report back as soon as I can, though it'll probably be radio silence until I'm back on board.

Just make sure to give us a head's up if anyone's getting brought back who didn't leave with you.

There's a thought. [ Kasumi taps a finger against her chin. ] And any mysterious cargo too.

Yes, that too. Anything unusual that wasn't there before, even if it doesn't seem important.

It'll all teach us something about our hosts, at the very least. I'd follow them around, if the risk of getting caught wasn't so high.

You could try, with your cloak -- but you're right. A shadow bumping into people isn't exactly subtle.

And since I don't know the layout of the station or the security in place or much about the kind of training Resnik and Ward might have... [ She shakes her head. ] Definitely not worth it.
