Russia did say it got nasty down there. [A shrug] It stayed quiet here- thought maybe with half the crew off throwing in with those bastards, the ship would try and pull something like it does during the jumps. Not so much as a twitch.

If there was ever a better moment to start putting their minds to what we've talked about, it's now. No one got out of that ordeal down there okay, looks like, and I bet Ward and Resnik'll catch hell for not warning them.

Aye, Russia'd be right. Tried takin' over me mind. But the red smile killed 'em all lettin' us free.

[Does Jack see anything wrong with this? Nope. He shrugs.]

Suppose with everyone who generally causes trouble down there, ain't much t'do here.

Awfully helpful, isn't he? [Haymitch has reserved judgment on that damn smile for awhile, because while the lists make him think of Reapings, he's not on it, so clearly that's a point in the smile's favor. The fact that it's only seemed to be helping is just more fuel for that fire.]

But the doors stay locked and nothing new opened up, just to spite them. Figure the ship only responds when it knows no one's looking.

[He chortles.] I have. Only reason I haven't jumped out of my skin yet.

[He's beginning to change his mind about the red smile as well. It didn't seem too friendly in the beginning but lately? It's been helping them out. He can understand changing from one side to another, but this is twice in a row it's saved their lives. That's something, even if he's not entirely sure what yet.]

Who knows when he'll change his mind, though. Not all bein's are that nice all the time. I ain't.

[He chortles.] Technology and the fact that half the damn ship's a firm believer that holding hands and being hopeful will get us out of this. Can't afford to think like that. Never works.

[He's seen that before- in Panem. The only time change came was when someone finally thought to set the blaze.]

[It's not about being nice, really. It's about doing the right thing, whither you want to or not.]

I am in full agreement, mate. It's got pull over us, and I ain't one to argue with bein's more powerful than I.

No. I ain't ever seen somethin' like this solved without a lot o' fightin'.

So, much as it pains me to admit it, we're doing a lot of sitting around and plotting before all the fighting can even happen.

[He snorts.] And assuming that gets us somewhere. Didn't work so well for the last one.

[Who is gone now and with him go all of Haymitch's ploys to get him to spill the details of what he did, so Haymitch can do it better.]

[He makes a face. Jack is not one to... sit down and plot. He just kind of... improvises and goes along with things.]

Aye, not too well at'all. Just means we gotta do it better.

Given the political situation- the fact that there actually is one, that is- I think we'd best not. That'll fall apart, as it will, and by that time, they'll be looking for the next regime change.

Play our hand right, Sparrow, and that could be us. [And then you can do all the improvising you want.]

Waitin' for regimes t'topple ain't always the most surefire thing, mate. But if we were t'start somethin' that ensured it fell...

[He's looking to cause trouble, basically.]
