[ Alice is sitting up in Hatter's makeshift tea shop when the feed clicks on, a friendly smile on her face. Or an attempted one, anyways, since she's not exactly the most cheerful all things considered. ] Afternoon, Tranquility. My name's Alice and although I don't know many of you, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in learning Judo. I have a black-belt in it and I was a part time instructor back home, so I can promise you I'm good at it. I wouldn't be offering if I wasn't. [ She offers another smile, though it ends up fading fairly quickly. ] I know it might not do a lot of good if there isn't something to actually defend yourselves against, but I also know that having the strength to do so if you need it is a huge confidence booster. And even beyond that, staying active and learning something new might be a good distraction from what's been going on lately. [ She might also be hoping that someone will take her up on this so she can have a distraction, but that's beside the point. ]

If you have something you'd like to trade in exchange for lessons, I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you, but it's not absolutely necessary. I'll be doing some training on my own, so it's not like teaching others is going to cut into my time or anything.

It's meant more for taking people down and keeping them down than actually harming them, but if your skill level's high enough, it's very effective. Obviously the opponent you're up against can change things up, just like with any style of self-defense or fighting technique, but it works.

[ Alice notices the lock but doesn't question it; if this woman doesn't want it public knowledge, who is she to ask why? Although she is curious, there's no denying that. ] It's nice to meet you, Carolyn. [ And even though she won't ask about the lock -- ] I was planning on doing group lessons if there was enough interest, but I can do private lessons, too. [ If you're interested goes unsaid. ]

You're not alone in that, trust me. [ She may be a black-belt in Judo but if Alice were to go up against one of the vampires or other supernatural beings here, she'd be fucked. But it's better to at least be able to fight back somehow than not at all, right? ] We can set up a schedule for private lessons. I usually only did it twice a week back home, but if you want and feel like you can handle it, we could do three days a week.

[ Judo... That could be a lot better than constantly getting his ass kicked. He's used to wandering around the ship, and he recognizes the background.

Which is why, instead of replying on the network, he simply gets up and walks. It's only a matter of time when Brendan is next to Alice, waiting patiently, hands in the pocket of his coat, duct-tape on the fleece jacket from where he'd been slashed in the arm with a knife. It's long healed, thanks to Tranquility, but a nice reminder that maybe he has to do something like this. ]

[ Alice, who might be a little more observant here than back home, glances over when she catches something out of the corner of her eye. ] Hi. [ Her eyes drift towards the duct tape for a moment before lifting back to his face, a friendly - though not full - smile on her face. ] Are you here for tea, or--?

You can call me Alice. [ She actually turns now, hands slipping into the pockets of her dress. ] Feel free to throw whatever questions you've got at me; I don't mind.

[ Alice looks a little surprised - even a bit confused - at that, but she does smile. ] Thanks, I think. [ That was a compliment, wasn't it? ] Did you expect judo teachers to be ugly?

[Oh, Stats would definitely need this. At least to avoid getting injured as badly as he is. He's still in medbay, a little bit better than a couple days ago, but he can hardly move. Broken ribs tend to do that to people.]

Hello. It would appear I'm in need of lessons. [He laughs.] I would like to start in a week or two, when I'm better. I learn fast; I can catch up.

[ Alice recognizes med bay well enough, so she's more than thankful that he's at least smart enough to wait until he's healed. ]

I might not even start it for another week, so you won't be that far behind. I need to see how much interest there is before I actually set a starting date.

I don't have any bright ideas for padding unless we make everyone drag their mattresses out, but if you come up with anything better I'm always good for the grunt work.
