[ Alice is sitting up in Hatter's makeshift tea shop when the feed clicks on, a friendly smile on her face. Or an attempted one, anyways, since she's not exactly the most cheerful all things considered. ] Afternoon, Tranquility. My name's Alice and although I don't know many of you, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in learning Judo. I have a black-belt in it and I was a part time instructor back home, so I can promise you I'm good at it. I wouldn't be offering if I wasn't. [ She offers another smile, though it ends up fading fairly quickly. ] I know it might not do a lot of good if there isn't something to actually defend yourselves against, but I also know that having the strength to do so if you need it is a huge confidence booster. And even beyond that, staying active and learning something new might be a good distraction from what's been going on lately. [ She might also be hoping that someone will take her up on this so she can have a distraction, but that's beside the point. ]

If you have something you'd like to trade in exchange for lessons, I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you, but it's not absolutely necessary. I'll be doing some training on my own, so it's not like teaching others is going to cut into my time or anything.

But it's all informal--she learned from experience, and she is wicked bad at it even then. She may have just acquired protection, but that doesn't mean she isn't perking instantly at this offer. Learning for free? Like fuck she won't take advantage of that.]

[ Johns and Riddick had both tossed her around like she didn't weigh anything. The creatures that killed her had been strong, fast, and she'd been hopelessly outmatched.

[ Alice notices the lock but doesn't question it; if this woman doesn't want it public knowledge, who is she to ask why? Although she is curious, there's no denying that. ] It's nice to meet you, Carolyn. [ And even though she won't ask about the lock -- ] I was planning on doing group lessons if there was enough interest, but I can do private lessons, too. [ If you're interested goes unsaid. ]

How--how good is it? For fucking people up.

It's meant more for taking people down and keeping them down than actually harming them, but if your skill level's high enough, it's very effective. Obviously the opponent you're up against can change things up, just like with any style of self-defense or fighting technique, but it works.

You too. [ One hand slides through her hair, pausing again on the little bit that's shorter than the rest. ] I'd rather do private, if you're willing. [ Pause. ] I'm kind of hilariously outmatched on this ship. [ Hopefully Alice will take it as Fry being embarrassed. ]

You're not alone in that, trust me. [ She may be a black-belt in Judo but if Alice were to go up against one of the vampires or other supernatural beings here, she'd be fucked. But it's better to at least be able to fight back somehow than not at all, right? ] We can set up a schedule for private lessons. I usually only did it twice a week back home, but if you want and feel like you can handle it, we could do three days a week.

I heard something about people with superpowers here? [ It's not what she'd been thinking of, not at all, but it's convenient enough. ] I can do three days a week. I'm in shape.

Yeah, it kinda is. [ Not that she's ever used the term "rad" in her life, but. ] Do you know any other martial arts or anything?

I've never actually spoken to anyone with powers, I don't think, but I'm pretty sure they exist. Supernatural beings, too, as far as I know. [ She nods at that. ] Okay, great. Do you have any preferences for when? I've got a lot of time on my hands here, so I'm pretty much free whenever.

I spoke to a robot. [ That was weird in itself. ] I'm free. [ She's joining up with Operations to help out in the shuttle bay, but honestly? Right now, this takes precedence. ]

A robot? Really? [ Not exactly what she wants to hear considering the fact that she's pretty sure Mad March is at least partially a robot now. He'd have to be to have a cookie jar for a head, right? ] What did he look like?

I guess the ship stuck him in a human body -- which is apparently fairly common for robots and AIs. He's not happy about it. [ She can't really blame him there. ]

[ If he was put in one when he got here, it must not be Mad March. At least, that's what Alice is telling herself. ] I don't think I would be, either, if I were him.

It's bad enough, adjusting to a place like this on top of having to adjust to a new body. [ Or so she figures. ]

Where were you thinking about teaching?

[ Judo... That could be a lot better than constantly getting his ass kicked. He's used to wandering around the ship, and he recognizes the background.

Which is why, instead of replying on the network, he simply gets up and walks. It's only a matter of time when Brendan is next to Alice, waiting patiently, hands in the pocket of his coat, duct-tape on the fleece jacket from where he'd been slashed in the arm with a knife. It's long healed, thanks to Tranquility, but a nice reminder that maybe he has to do something like this. ]

[ Alice, who might be a little more observant here than back home, glances over when she catches something out of the corner of her eye. ] Hi. [ Her eyes drift towards the duct tape for a moment before lifting back to his face, a friendly - though not full - smile on her face. ] Are you here for tea, or--?

[ She laughs a little. ] Hey, that's better than absolutely nothing. Are you a fast learner?

Yeah, I do. I've been teaching it for a while now.

Yeah, or that.

I'd guess the latter. I don't think things around here are organized enough for sign-up sheets.
