[FILTERED AWAY FROM CASTMATES]
[This has been something that's been plaguing Alex for a while. Things had been different, in Promenade, when he had been the one being given new information. Now that he is the keeper of certain...info, he wants some advice. Charles seems to have some pieces too, but as usual, he hasn't directly inquired with the telepath, rather wanting to strike out on his own, first.]
Let's say you know the future of some people here. Maybe not their future, but a future. One that might end up theirs--or might not.
[Alex sighs; the way he's describing it, he could see why people might say it doesn't matter, but--]
I guess what I'm saying is that if you know what someone might do in the future--or you've learned things that tell you about their past...
...do you tell them?
Or is it better just to kinda.... [He goes silent for a moment, before speaking again] keep that shit to yourself.
You know, avoid messing with the time space continuum.
[End filter.]
[Now onto something that covers up for his random question. Something that his team mates can answer, too.]
Is anyone else starting to go a bit stir crazy?
[Alex spent almost a year sitting in solitary. The windowless rooms here remind him too much of his own cell--yeah he can get out, do things around here, but he's still sleeping in a place that makes him wake up and remember times he had tried to put behind him.]
Can't imagine how some of you six month-ers feel.
[A beat.]
We don't have a basketball court in this weird place, do we?

managing the time-space continuum is my job

[Let's just go with that. He doesn't see how it couldn't. First off, if someone knows their future, and they change it, things get pretty damn out of whack. Secondly, Alex knows that in some world he's a damn gateway into other dimensions. If that isn't messing with time and space, he doesn't know what else it is.]

[ Erik's way of saying yes, that he is feeling a bit restless over these few months. He's been there longer than Alex, but while there's freedom, and a bit more luxury than he's afforded, there's still a bit of restlessness to him that has Erik wanting to constantly move. ]
You played basketball?
[ He asks with a genuine curiosity, because it's a little surprising to hear that Alex, who had spent enough time in solitary would want to play that. ]
video | private
[Alex shrugs.]
One of the foster homes had a hoop set up.
...before I got sent to solitary, we used to play it in the yard, too.
[There had been a few older inmates that had been kind enough to take him under their wing, bring them onto their makeshift teams. It had been nice, to feel like he belonged--even if it was for a short while, with convicts. But that had always been the way with things. Foster homes--prison--the team they had originally founded--Promenade.
Everything ended up transitory. Nothing stuck.]

[ There's a shrug, because this question just slightly bothers him with how Bruce hadn't told any of their team about the random alien invasion or hey we all know each other back at home. Whatever, though. ] Personal preference and all that though. Some people like not knowing and shit. I'm going take a wild stab in the dark and say that you know something your- things don't.
[ He won't call them teammates, but right now Tony can't bother finding another word for them. ]
And unrelated to the original question, holodecks can probably give you one if there isn't actually one.

[At least, he's pretty sure. He's still unsure about the implications of his brother's wife not knowing who the hell he was.
But well, there are other things that are more minor, and easier to deal with.]
Yeah--I know a lot, actually. Few of the kids in Promenade came from the future, and gave me more than a few information dumps I didn't exactly...ask for.
[He gives a slight nod.]
I haven't really gotten the hang of those--but I'll figure it out.
[A beat, and a slight smile.]
You're looking less dead.

The future is hard for me to see, on my part. Though if it should be as he's said, then I'd be glad for it, though I find trouble having full faith in that.
[ a thoughtful glance ]
How well do you know these people?
[ might depend on how much his word is taken ]

[He knows that tone of skepticism.]
Pretty damn well, I think.
Especially considering one of them is another version of me.

any shifts to a specific timeline is just a divergence that as time god me said
creates an alpha and beta line
the time line to continue is going to keep going regardless of what you do
your interference in the matters could possibly be what was set to happen all along
its tricky like that
basically you do what youre going to do and hope you dont do something stupid to create an off shoot

[A pause, thinking for a moment.]
I would almost certainly tell them that I knew about their past, though. That's the kind of thing that has the chance of cropping up and making a mess if kept locked up.

Yeah--I mean I guess it could cause some problems if Alex and I's brothers showed up.

So you purrobably won't disrupt space and time by telling them. Back in my universe, we could communicate with our past and future selves through a chat client, and aside from sending Karkitty into a rage every time he talked to another version of himself, it never really did any harm.
Now, as fur whether or not you should tell them... that's much trickier. Sometimes the things that are said are unbelievable, even if they're true and even if they're meant to happen. It gets even trickier beclaws you have to wonder if that's what's suppawsed to happen in your timeline. Who knows? Maybe such events will happen in a doomed timeline! In which case there's no need to worry a furiend.
Though in the end, I think you should do what you think is right. If telling them might somehow benefit the future even if it gives them some trouble in the purresent, you might want to consider telling them.
...Whew! Sorry fur the long rambling. This is just one of the few complicated topics I can actually give some purrspective on! Anyway, I keep having fun by playing in the gardens and meeting all the new people on board.

...you from the same place as the Time God?
[They have to be--there are...three of them, he thinks, that have responded, all from the same place.]
We don't usually think of things like this where I come from--at least not yet. I experienced a lot of things, learned a lot in another place, that sort of changed my perspective on timelines, alternative universes...stuff like that.
I appreciate the advice.

I can not say that I am, going stir crazy quite yet. There seems to be a great deal to be done on this ship, though perhaps not overly physically active I suppose.
Are you feeling restless, Alex?

Just starting to feel a bit...solitary.

[He's used to crises every day. This is slow as hell. Who is he joking?]
You probably shouldn't fill someone in on their future. Time seems like a risky thing and the guys in charge of this boat are already pretty fickle with it.

[Alex is too, for better or worse. Though the Manticores were a bit too much like the olden days for his liking.]
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Still kinda feel bad for the people who aren't used to technology.

But as someone who knows what it feels like to have someone come back and tell you what a dick you're gonna be, or how your whole world's gonna fall apart, I can tell you it's a crap shoot. Either you tell them and they're gonna have to deal with what they've not even done yet, earn forgiveness for months of their life that they haven't even thought about let alone lived through, or you don't, in which case you're gonna have to live with the fact that they're bright eyed and innocent and keep catching you looking at 'em like they've been strangling babies in the night, waiting on tenterhooks for that moment where they change and become what you know they're gonna be.
Either way you're fucked.
