All those currently under my instruction for Engineering, I plan to meet sometime in the next couple days to explain shifts and send people to the different subsections they're interested in. Those who know enough to work solo should still keep in touch, but I'm not going to hound you.

Especially with that fault that occurred this last jump, we need to be alert for anything that might have gone haywire.

That diagnostic will be as vital as anything else we've got at the moment, Jarvis. Flag me if you pick up anything suspicious.

Checked my little improv device as soon as the...commotion had died down. Got some strange readings I had to cross-reference from what I remember about Space 101.

Quite a bit of electromagnetic and thermal fluctuation around the time the Jump Drive engaged, from what I can tell. Did some cross-referencing of the numbers, it's a form of black-body radiation usually only seen admitted by black holes.

Is this something unusual? We know the ship utilizes wormholes when it jumps. [so this could be normal.]

Wormholes can be black holes, but utilizing that sort of wormhole is pretty risky. Not to mention, I've never seen the idea for a wormhole-style drive triggering. gravitational anomalies within the ship in question.

It's definitely not normal.

Unless I got a wire or two crossed, the Hawking radiation was being emmitted by the Jump Drive itself, which...

unless I'm completely off the mark, means it's simulating a small-scale black hole when the drive's engaged.

Wait. [trying to get this straight.] So we know the ship creates a singularity when it's jumping through space. Are you saying something opens up into the ship when it happens, too?

How is that possible without pulling the ship apart?

To tell you the truth, I don't know. I'm looking into how it might be possible, but all I can tell you is what I'm sure the data reads.

Would explain the gravity couches, though.

We thought the gravity couches had to do with the lack of inertial dampeners on the ship.

When you showed me how they work, it wasn't too hard to get something jury rigged up. Hardest part was finding the moving parts to make it easier to user.

Right now, we just need to make sure we can keep Engineering safe and secured. Run tests to make sure there are no electrical faults, re-wire things if necessary. You know, down and dirty engineering.
