That's Bass's normal mindset (keep to yourself, don't catch anyone's attention) but even though his search has been fruitless and mentions of a girl called Bonnie nonexistent, he's not ready to let go of the idea that - if nothing else - she might have left something behind waiting to be found. Intentionally or not.]

[ It's the same thread Jaye is clinging to. She has Scott's switchblade. There might be more, and like it or not, they're on the ship. She's involved.

It could very well be a matter of survival. ]

Even if we don't find the room, we might find something else.

[He thinks about the symbols carved on the walls of the corridors he walked through last time. That could help.]

[ Jaye has animal senses, as long as she shifts. She doesn't know it, of course, but Bass will be able to tell what she's thinking as an animal and Stefan is a vampire. Which reminds her... ]

Someone else has volunteered to come along. Guy named Stefan. He says he can take care of himself, if we run into trouble -- he's also from this past jump.

[Not that Bass is too keen on following orders, but he's one of the last people who will volunteer to lead others on. The less reasons people have to count on him, the less attention he'll draw to himself.]
