I thought it was supposed to be a little grander than this. [ THOUGHTFUL PAUSE. ] More lights, you know, and perhaps more windows in the ship so we could actually see things.
But as a measure of curiosity, show of hands, how many of us are just from good old Earth? Been to the moon and not much further, that sort of thing? Because an awful lot of you seem very at home on a bloody spaceship, and I'm feeling a little left out.

yep we're an underground operationafter a fashion

but it is pretty advanced actually.
well, since last time i saw it. i had a sort of vacation there for a year or so.
not actually sure i'm allowed to tell you that
but since we're on a spaceship and nobody's going to kill me for it why the hell not

well actually yes if you want to get technical
but it's a reeeeeally long story for another time
my life hasn't stopped being interesting since i turned in my dissertation.
and i think you're okay unless you routinely paint targets on your back with little notes saying "shoot me i'm evil"
not yet, but i'm working on it. closest i've got is that something -- probably similar or identical to the anomaly convergence in my world -- pulled everyone from random points in time and space and dumped them here as a kind of midway point to... wherever.
