This ship has a habit of turning your mind against you. For those of you who find it useful - [ hey fellow jedi heyy ] - the oxygen gardens are good for meditation, especially the upper levels. For my own part, I know enough about the future - [ his expression turns grim, distant, ] - the Clone Wars end, peace returns to the galaxy. I know the role I play in the events. The Force guides me -- and I will do what I must. You needn't tell me any more. [ A pause, a gruff nod. ] Each one of you can decide for yourself how much of your future you want to know. I won't make that decision for you. But we all need to be clear.

What do you mean?

[ He pauses, appraising the video screen with a critical eye, then merely says: ]

[ his ears perk up at his question just like his eyebrow does. ]

Is it that obvious?

[ Quinlan's expression twists with a wry smile. He leaves the second question unanswered; the very reason that the newcomer didn't know was answer enough. ]

The Tranquility isn't the most accurate name. There have been incidents in the past: masks that twisted your mind after months, strange corridors, ghostly presences. [ a beat. ] The best advice we give new passengers is not to stray in to the dark regions of the ship. You'll want to listen to that.

[ talk about unwelcome news. his ears perk up as he listen to the other describe what's happened so far.]

By 'dark regions' you simply mean places where the light is scarce?

The lights might not work and your comms device might fail, but that's not what I mean. [ He shakes his head slowly, passively. ] The unexplored, the abandoned -- these corridors are best left alone. Stick to the inhabited decks. Stick with people.

And what if you gather a decent amount of people and go exploring that way?

Then your chances improve. Perhaps not by much, but -- [ He pauses, gauging the look of the man - a Cathar? Possibly, - at the other end of the feed. ] -- You'll fare a little better with every companion you travel with. [ ... ] Are you thinking of heading out?

[ a brash cat dies young, or they thought him, so he's not going to launch himself into something he doesn't know more details about. and besides, he's not one akin to work in group. but his ears perk up anyway at the other's last question. ]

I'm just trying to understand how many have given up on getting away from here.

It's not 'giving up'. It's surviving. There's good reason why new passengers are told not to head out in to the darkness alone... [ a pause. ] It's because all the passengers before you learned the hard way.

Then how long have you been here?

[ how long is the series of wasted efforts. even if they had done and tried everything they could, to rai it just meant they hadn't tried hard enough.]

How long has this been going on?

Me? Seven jumps. I saw the emergency shutdowns just before the masks - the ghosts, the carnage in the genetics lab...

[ He doesn't say it but it's there in his tone: it's been a pretty rough seven jumps. ]

But the ship as a whole? Eighteen jumps is the longest a passenger has been here. [ A pause, then a heavy shrug. ] Don't know about the captain and the commander.

[ now, that's actually something interesting. ]

Are there recordings of the things that have happened?

Have people been taking notes?

There's a dossier on the network that's maintained together by some of the veterans of the early jump. [ He pauses, then adds with pointedly: ] Familiarise yourself with it. It could be the difference between life and death.
