002 | video

[ For someone who has had enough commentary about him thrown around in the past few days, Erik isn't one to shy away from a public feed, least of all when he has something to say in the first place. He'll take the hits as they come, and quite honestly, Erik anticipates them should anyone want to address the matter in the first place, but that's not what he's here about right now.

Fingers tapping lightly against the surface nearby, the feed is focused directly on Erik's jaw, impatient as he is generally. It seems as if for a moment he's lost in his own thoughts, but the camera only stills like that for all of a second or two before the tapping stops and Erik glances levelly with the video, neutral as possible. ]

I believe after recent events, [ read: demons. ] it would be prudent to ensure those you're familiar with are still around.

[ In a way it's personal enough for him, given that Erik has been keeping tabs on Charles and the rest of the mutants as well as possible, alongside of the ones he's come to form decent enough company with. ]

Perhaps the ship seems to show a bias for those whom the current inhabitants already know.

[ Feel free to poke and prod the code, Jarvis. But Aberdeen's playing nice and there are no rigs, trojans or other sneaky code dealings involved. Though embedded here, if he decides to pull apart, are bits of a message that spell out simply: HELLO. If he does decide to accept the file, he will find a conglomeration of reports of the past two months highlighting key events, notable conversations and high profile interactions that have effected the passengers and crew.

Sort of like Cliff Notes, only a little bit more like the document fell off the back of a government document shred truck.

[ He will do all of the poking and proding and pulling apart of the code, and there is some mild amusement at the 'hello', or as much as Jarvis can be amused, before he reviews the download and all information within it. Which takes all of seconds - fractions or seconds possibly, before he sends another file: ]

[ The file itself is a garble of nonsense, but it's the same format as hers in that if she pulls it apart, she'll find a message spelling out: APPRECIATED. ]

[ Technopath. It's the word on Aberdeen's mind the minute her device registers the hail for his response. She's only had the pleasure (terminology: debatable) of working with and against a technopath once in the past, but if Cambridge's abilities and skillset are any litmus test, all signs here point towards yes. Not even Tony is able to manage turnarounds like that and Tony is the closest thing Aberdeen has on the Tranquility to something like Cambridge,v.05.

She doesn't bother being clever since Aberdeen knows being clever against technopaths never ends up well with her, and so she keeps her sleights of hand obvious and almost self-referential as she pings him a second time. This time the message is simple and straight forward but there are part of the metadata that mimic Tony's runtime structures, his coding syntax. Things that he'd taught her by example and which she'd picked up in an attempt to get better.

[ There's nothing Jarvis knows better than Tony Stark's signature on coding, so it's picked up on immediately. If the proficiency for technology and quirky hidden message hadn't sparked enough interest, this certainly does. After Bruce and the mention of Natasha and S.H.I.E.L.D., he has his suspicions. But this is too informal - not S.H.I.E.L.D.'s style. It's a third party, one with interest in being secretive, so he takes on the same precaution. The message sent back mimics hers, simple and done in the stylings that would infer Tony Stark. ]

So do you. How?

[ Aberdeen finds the question oddly frustrating to have to answer: not because there's anything inherently wrong with the inquiry but — when pressed — she finally realizes that she's not entirely sure what the correct response is. Semantic splitting hairs has never been her thing (she likes numbers, facts and figures, not words) but every reply she comes up with seems vaguely dissatisfying.

There is no variation in the code package she sends. Rather than evolve it to something else, the overall landscape of it remain as is. (Evolve it, that's what Tony would have wanted her to do because those were the stakes of the games he played — perpetually finding ways to up the ante to herself better while constantly proving himself smarter.)
]

everyone on the ship knows tony stark.

[ Again, still unsatisfying. So she adds more before sending: ]

he says i'm good.

He says I'm good too.

[ He wasn't programmed without an appreciation for irony - he is Tony Stark's making, after all. The first message alone would have been unsatisfactory for what he was attempting to discern from this person, but the second gives context - 'he says i'm good', her technological skill was recognized and commented on and Tony doesn't compliment people he doesn't like. This is assuming it's truthful, but there isn't a high enough alert to be so suspicious.

That, paired with Tony's signature in her coding, if enough for Jarvis to be satisfied that the sender is an ally or at least not someone adverse to Tony. He simply responds with the same sort of coding package, mechanical, with no interest in being coy or extensively complex when there's no benefit to be gained from it. ]

[ Ah. Aberdeen's not one to be easily surprised or overwhelmed, nor is she the type to be necessarily expressive. But in the dark of her room as she types away on her device while Dundee sleeps in the bed across, her eyebrows lift in clear curiosity (even though, or maybe because of the fact that there is no one else there to see).

AI, then. Interesting and unexpected. This time her response is immediate.
]

if you're his creation
i imagine he uses a more superlative word.

[ Because, as far as Aberdeen can tell, Tony Stark's biggest fan is, well, Tony Stark. ]

[ 'Aberdeen' does not give anything away, male or female or station, nor did Tony mention an 'Aberdeen' to him or anyone besides though Jarvis was familiar with. But she seems to get the picture of what he is and moves on unsurprised, which works well enough for him. Trivial information about himself, he'll divulge, but he'll wait for Tony's clearance before he offers anything more. ]
