[ this is unusual at best, but john watson is the adapting sort. he has to when his best friend (arguably. loathing as he would be to admit it) is sherlock holmes. this is simply part and par for the course. for the most part, he has kept a low profile, asking questions to find out pertinent information. and even figured out how to use this little device. sort of. it's like a handheld typewriter. fascinating.
except he doesn't know it broadcasts out to everyone. w h o o p s. ]
The imagination is a powerful tool.
Except I cannot help but wonder if this is less imagination and more hallucination. Last I remember, I was at home in the study and the next moment--as if reality itself had shifted--I was covered in an unidentifiable substance. Blue in color, nearly gelatinous in texture but washed away cleanly in the showers. No visible harm, no internal damage from what I can assess. Curious, really.
From what I have gathered this is a ship in space. Seems highly far fetched to me. How is a ship able to move through air and no water? Something does not ring right about this place, as if a mystery is unfolding down each strangely dark corridor. Even some odd demon-like possessions as it were. Surely a place worthy to keep Holmes busy for at least a week.
[ on the other end of the device—and he'd INHERENTLY disagree if anyone saw. but there's almost a nostalgic sort of smile that passes over his lips. but then it's gone nearly as quickly as it came. ]
Too bad you have to miss this, old chap.

I want to catalogue differences between you and John.
It's called concern.

[ bloody hell. and the sad part is, is that he won't be able to escape it. he knows this already. never mind that he's curious to know what the other watson is like. you know, once he's gotten over the whole how is this real life sort of thing. ]
Concern? For whom, exactly? I wasn't aware any Sherlock held concern for anyone but himself.

Oh, then it's clear to me you have yet to have 'that' conversation.
SH
[ By 'that' conversation he's actually referring to the one in Baskerville where Sherlock admits actual friendship. But with a gay implication a few messages prior it does do wonders to the psyche. He's testing the waters actually. he's clearly got no qualms experimenting on John, he doesn't see why Watson should be exempt from it. But there is a part of him that does want to legitimately get along with Watson. It's the small things he notices like how honestly John and Holmes are close and he wants to see if he can bond on that level with Watson. It's a shot in the dark. But for what it is, Watson is his bestfriend in Victorian packaging. He's really just imagining John with a top hat until Watson provides visuals. ]

And what conversation might that be?
[ and, for what it's worth on this end, some part of him wants to get along with sherlock, too. once he gets over the duplicate thing, anyway. of course, he'll come to realize that will be a huge mistake. one sherlock is bad but two?? that can't be good for a man's heart. it's sort of like those shame spirals where you're depressed and keep eating loads and loads of ice cream until your brain freezes. only it's with multiple sherlocks you just can't ever say no to. wow that made no sense but i'm leaving it because that is sort of the state of watson's mind right now. ]

Evident in a number of things.
Did you need a blanket for your shock?
I offered John one, but I think he may have replied to that message with an eye roll.
Holmes may be fascinating but you ought to have imagined my surprise when he first arrived.
[ There's that openness garnered with Watson being John. In a sort of terrifying way. It's enough to earn John the next statement. ]
On the scale of things, people were mostly expecting
your version of us when we introduced ourselves with the
names of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

[ by all rights it should be harder to speak to sherlock and john, respectively. and in some ways it is but... in other ways it's far easier to talk to them because it's them. he needn't explain so much to either one. john because he has his own holmes to deal with, and sherlock because he has his own watson. it's comforting in an out of body experience sort of way. ]
Admittedly, I'm still finding it a bit disconcerting people know who I—we—are to begin with.

lineage and isn't at all a factor derailed by time.
Once in a life time offer - Would you want company?
Oh you're from a series of books that are excerpts of
your biographies - that is the Victorian terminology -
is it not? It's apparently quite a good read according to Spock.
But consider all the unneeded adjectives you've managed to slot
in the original posting alone, I'd imagine I'd have a lot
to critique about it. I also think - like John, you blatantly
ignore process.

Oh. Yes, I see. [ well that's sort of... weird. but interesting. alright. okay. awesome. or something. he doesn't know who spock is but that's alright too. ]
I enjoy being descriptive. Somehow it manages to help. However, I have no doubt you would offer critique with or without it being sought after. If there are books of mine being published and available for anyone to read—it seems my process is just fine.
