What happens to the people we've left behind? If anybody knows, I mean. If you don't, that's all right. You can just tell me what you think happens. Or, we could talk about the weather. [Pause.] Of which there is none of in space, making that a short conversation.

Maybe pick your own topic. I'd like to talk to just about anybody, at the moment. Get to know the other inmates, so to speak. I'm an excellent conversationalist, you'll find - possibly the best, but I'll give everyone a chance to prove me wrong there.

It's been proven that the ship can take people from different parts of time and worlds. So far as what happens when we're taken, though, I'm not entirely sure.

There's been... Some cases where people have gone back home and go missing on the ship. And everyone that I've talked to that's had that happened seems to think life went on as usual where they left off.

So maybe nothing changes.

[ Voice ]

Hmm. So, there's really no reason to be overly alarmed about the situation. We're not missing out on anything by being here. Time is - essentially - frozen at home?

[voice] (Let us assume that Death found the reply button)

[The accent that comes through can only be described as graveyard. Complete with the mental image of crypts, gravestones and last rights.]

They keep on living. [A pause.] At least, until a Death comes for them.

[Every once in a while, Death likes to be helpful. Sadly, there are times when he gets the questions all wrong.]

[voice]

[There's a long pause at the start of this because, well, that's one hell of a voice. When he does speak, it's mild and totally unphased.]

Inmate. [ Erik scoffs, the choice of words appealing to not one, but both the conscious beings inside of him. To Erik, it was a means of solidarity, to the demon, it was a threat, stinging at the fact that he currently was using a particular person to get his way aboard the ship. ]

Why the choice of words?

voice.

I dunno. [He sounds blase as he speaks, probably sitting back in a chair and putting his feet up or something. Totally at ease here.] Why not? We're aboard a ship that none of us asked to be on, and we aren't allowed home until something other than our own willpower decides it for us - theoretically speaking, at least, all of that sounds a bit like prison, doesn't it?

Oh I suppose it does, [ He says lightly, the smirk on his face easily concealed by their mode of conversation right now. There's a slight shuffling on his own end as Erik settles back, the conversation at least guaranteed to be interesting by now -- ] but prisons are also defined by the ten by ten room you're confined to, aren't they? At least there's some luxury to distract you for all of five minutes.

That's very true. Hm. There really aren't a lot of things to compare this situation to, when we get down to it. Prison, funhouse, maybe a really terrible party that we would feel guilty to leave...

[ There's a bit of rustling as he tries to better situate the phone as to be heard but not have to hold it up. When he does speak it's with a English accent; best associated as the Queens English, ]

I'm sorry I can't quite be informative on the first part as I've yet to be here long enough to be knowledgeable of those arriving or left behind. However, I find a good conversation is always a decent possibility for drumming up ideas or at least finding out information about one's situation. As I've just arrived I can only provide hypothetical; but I'll offer to be of what assistance I can.

Oh, you too? [As if they both happened to be invited to the same party by accident,] That's nice. I haven't had a chance to really speak with anybody new.

It does leave us lacking for a topic of conversation, though. Seen anything spooky, yet?

Unfortunately yes. [ A wistful sort of sigh, as curious as he is about technology he doesn't really fancy being dragged from his home. ]

I would have to say most of this is a bit "spooky" to me. Waking up in a tube with many of my things in a locker and a new tattoo I'm not exactly keen on.

It's better than waking up and finding out your head's been stolen. [Spoken like someone who totally knows how that shit goes.] But, I suppose it is all a little spooky. I was going to go with unnerving, but really, that doesn't have quite as much panache.

Inmate is a rather apt word for the situation we find ourselves in.

I thought so too.

Which is why you used it, yes? [Her tone is a little bit wry.]

That, and I couldn't think of another one. I'm not a thesaurus, after all.

[Truth be told, he hasn't wanted to think about it. Not with the state he left it in.

And another thing gives him thoughtful pause.]

Not many people say "inmate" around here.

What do they say? I've heard from several reliable sources that inmate is a perfectly good word for our situation, but I'm open to other suggestions.

["Several sources," more like one or two people who he's never met or talked to before in his life, but WHATEVER.]

I'm only full of myself because I know I'm amazing. It's much better than being full of yourself without actually deserving it.

Yeah, because every other person on the face of the planet doesn't think they deserve it, either. [ Can you hear her rolling her eyes? ] Just because you say you're awesome, buddy, doesn't mean you are. In fact, it usually means you're the exact opposite.

But, I'm beyond the norm. Therefore, it's only logical that I'm not the exact opposite.

I've been home and back, as as far as I know, things and people stayed the same. It was as if I had never left.
