[The boy on the screen looks physically no more than nineteen or twenty, perhaps even younger. It's the perceptible aura of power that surrounds him, cool and confident, that gives the lie to his appearance. He's too still by far, too pale and too collected to be nothing more than a lost young man. The more perceptive people on the ship may note that there's also no attempt to hide it. He speaks softly, but nonetheless somehow commands immediate and direct attention. His accent is completely unplaceable.]

If I am to understand correctly, this ship docks on occasion. I would like to know what our next destination might be and when we might arrive there, if such information is known.

[He pauses, thoughtful, not yet done speaking but in no apparent rush to continue.]

I would also like to know how our lockers come to hold our possessions, and how those possessions might be chosen or acquired.

[He does not say thank you, but he doesn't have to. Something in his mannerisms says it for him, unfailingly polite by tone and body language alone.]

It's been a few months see we last stopped anywhere. And our captain-in-name-only has been... [ A pause. ] Tight-lipped is putting it nicely.

[He contemplates this briefly.]

Tight-lipped. About our destination only, or about many things?

About everything important. He and the Chief Engineer pop up occasionally to tell us to hold tight, but otherwise.... [ Her pause this time is the equivalent of a shrug. ]

What of any other crew? Or passengers who are here voluntarily?

No one is here voluntarily. Not even the ones who are getting paid.

A sad state of affairs. Tell me then, if it isn't too invasive, where do you mean to return to? There seem to be a great variety of people here, not all of them familiar to me.

If I was a little more free to go where I want, when I want, I might actually feel at home here. It's actually not that much different from where I come from.

[ Mason's definitely paying close attention and, honestly, that's pretty much the only reason he's responding. He wants to know what it is about this guy that makes him so... Off. ]

I have a feeling those questions won't be getting answers anytime soon. At least not definite ones; that's how this whole place is.

[A fair enough response, if concerning for a variety of reasons.]

You seem to know that well. How long have you been here?

A month and a half, give or take. Most of the questions I've asked have been met mostly with "I don't know" or "Your guess is as good as mine".

And yet, those who have been here longest must have been curious. Exploration and inquiries have garnered nothing?

[He doesn't sound as if he disbelieves Mason, he's simply being thorough.]

I'm the wrong guy to be asking that, man. I've only been here a few months and all of the answers I've gotten have been guesses from others. You could try getting a hold of Resnik, though. Or... Ward, I think it is.

Resnik and Ward... They're in charge?

Closest thing to, I think. I've never talked to 'em myself, though.

No one's going to be able to answer those for you.

So seems to be the consensus thus far. Perhaps a better question would be to ask what we do know.

Nothing you'd want to put money on. Better to trust your own eyes and ears.

There is very little I trust more. However, I do value available information.

[Give him something to work with.]

Those questions have yet to be answered sufficiently, I regret to say.

So I'm beginning to see. Would you say there is any question concerning this ship that has been answered sufficiently?

Aside from imparting its name?

[He smiles faintly, amused.]

Yes, aside from that.

It seems to be a vessel that travels in space.

[ there's faint disbelief in her voice ]

We've yet to discover much about it.

[He catches the disbelief]

You don't believe we're in space?

I've never heard of such a vessel before arriving here, one that sail in the skies and not on the seas.

The concept is not so unusual, where I'm from. But without windows, we're given little evidence to decide whether or not this is true.

Forgive me, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Godric.

I'm sure there must be a window somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it.

Then perhaps my next step will be exploration.

No. [He shakes his head very slightly.] The opposite. I was given something I thought lost a very long time ago.

[ her head cants, just a fraction, to one side. ]
Then that's good- right?

[He smiles faintly.]

Perhaps. It is...unexpected. It has some sentimental value, true, but none so important that I have missed it, these many years. I imagine there must be some meaning behind giving it to me, but I cannot fathom what that meaning might be.

Rather than getting redundant answers, it may be better to simply determine how.

[ As opposed to everyone saying they don't know. Answers like that get one nowhere. ]

How..?

[Godric tilts his head a little in inquiry. It's a move that seems deliberate, as if it's not entirely natural to Godric to make small, human movements without thinking about it first.]

For example, I woke up here with possessions I last recalled holding onto. Others, as I've noticed, have not.

[ The only item Erik came with were the same ones he had on the beach, his suit, a handful of spare items, and hardly anything else of note. ]

You could always start by inquiring about the pattern. [ Which Godric has, but it doesn't hurt to offer up his own information. ] How much of your own possessions were on you before you arrived?
