[When the feed switches on, it shows Hiro flushed, breathless, and clearly ducked into a small, dark hiding place with a hand pressed to the side of his head and his eyes shut. He tries to keep his voice down when he speaks so that he won't be easily found, but who even knows what someone might be able to hear. Keeping his voice low also helps with the headache that started pounding behind his eyes; which had happened so suddenly that he'd stumbled into things and gotten him into the mess he's in at the moment.]
So-- here's a question. Totally hypothetical... but let's say you got caught sneaking into areas you shouldn't be in or touching things maybe no one wants you to touch. What would you say is the best way of getting out of it?
[He only asks because his usual tactic of "play the totally innocent/dumb kid card" doesn't seem to work so well on the few staff members he's run into in the engineering area, and even the "I'm so sorry, my head's been hurting and I got confused" angle failed. All of which has ended up with him kind of backed up into a corner. He wouldn't bother asking a whole bunch of strangers otherwise. Hiro bites his lip, glances outside of his little hiding spot, then turns back to the camera with a slightly sheepish look.]
It's not as bad as it sounds. I swear. I just... needed some things.

Maybe.
[And then he takes a deep breath, straightens up so he can get a look at his surroundings, and quickly has to think back. Directions from the elevators, huh? How had he made his way here?]
It's pretty deep in. Past what I think is the area they use for purifying the oxygen or something.
[Rather than complaining more, though, Tadashi picks what looks like a promising direction and heads out. It takes him a while and several wrong turns, but eventually he spots what might be the area Hiro mentioned. He turns his camera toward it, then peeks around at the screen, both eyebrows lifted slightly.]
This looking familiar yet?
[He keeps sifting through the piles of junk, occasionally putting something aside into a 'Potentially Useful' pile to re-evaluate once Tadashi gets there. When he hears Tadashi on the phone again he checks the screen, squinting a little as he makes out the details.]
..Oh- Yeah. There, make a left. There's like a weird, dark hallway that I went through to avoid some of the staff.
Avoid the staff, huh?
[Totally judging you, Hiro.
He makes the turn, watching the screen out of the corner of one eye as he runs his hand along the wall when he reaches the dark hallway.]
I'm just gonna tell you, when I get busted, I'm blaming it all on you getting yourself lost.
At Tadashi's little jab, Hiro just rolls his eyes.]
Why's that a "when"?? You've got zero faith in me, bro. I'm hurt.
Now, faith to do what -- that's the question.
[He's putting on his Adult Tadashi voice when he says that, too.]
No. No, no, no. [He shakes his head, grinning.] I've still got faith. Maybe it won't be great things. But things? You're definitely going to do things.
[He pans the camera away from him, letting the video show everything around.]
How far out now?
[And then he squints a little at the feed before nodding.] Hang a right. I'm a pretty sure I'm not too far from there.
[Video] -> [Action]
Hiro!
[Tadashi tucked his hands in his pockets as he strolled over.]
You really did go off the beaten path to find this place. Find anything you want help carrying back?
[Action]
That's how you find all the best stuff, bro. [He throws a quick smirk Tadashi's way, then points to his pile.] I'm probably gonna need some help with all that.
[Action]
[He eyes the pile Hiro has built up so far and has to run a hand over his face and sigh. He can already see that it's going to be a pain to carry back to the rooms It'll be worth it, no doubt, but he isn't exactly looking forward to the long trek back. Especially not with his headache pounding insistently every time he so much as blinks.
He leans over to pick up a piece of what appears to be metal from the original pile and tests it in his hands with a thoughtful frown.]
Just from looking at it, I expected it to have a lot more weight. What do you think -- new polymer? Some alloy we don't have access to yet? It's going to take some serious testing before we can do anything with this stuff.
[There's that empty room next to theirs. They can store everything there. Tadashi is already thinking ahead, wondering if he can hit Rikku up for access to the equipment they needed to start testing everything.]
[Action]
[He extracts himself from the pile of everything else and bounds over to join Tadashi, grabbing a smaller scrap up and rapping on it with the back of his knuckles.] It's got to be an alloy of- maybe of some element that we haven't discovered yet. Or maybe even one that someone synthesized in a lab! Either way it's- it's nothing we've ever seen before, and I'm planning on hauling all this back to really get a good look at it.
Seems pretty sturdy though, huh? We'd have to see how it holds up against like, high velocity projectiles, but it might make some pretty sick armor.
no subject
I don't know about you, but I'd rather find a way to predict and avoid any high velocity projectiles.
[He moves to the larger pile, crouching down and peering intently for a moment as he sizes up the pieces. Once he spots one big enough to suit his needs, he uses one foot against the pile to brace himself, then tugs the sheet free, wincing as it causes a small avalanche. It's worth it, though. Until they come up with something better, a sheet this size can be used to drag along behind without bothering with an unwieldy armful of materials.
Tadashi starts to move the pieces from the "good" pile over onto the sheet as he talks, tone much more excited and upbeat now.]
Even if this won't hold up against bullets, with some machining it might work for a few of Baymax's parts. I've been thinking about where to get the cameras. Defibrillators and antibacterial spray will be easy -- as long as the med bay has a surplus. The actuators will be a little more difficult. I'm hoping we can use some of this. I can't have anything that will bend or snap from anything less than 1,000 pounds.
[He stops rattling off his plans for a moment to take his hat off and run a hand through his hair, smiling as he surveys the pile of discards.]
Hate to admit it, Hiro. But you really did a good job finding this.
no subject
Whatever, bro. You know you're always proud of me.
Look, first step is making the stuff bullet-proof. I can't exactly make it so you can dodge them and I'm no psychic, so shielding and armor's the best I can do for now. Maybe once I've worked out the rest of the materials we're working with, we can make some kind of laser induced plasma shield that can be activated at will.
[He pauses mid-haul to give something he's holding a quick look over, squinting at it like he's sure he saw something he doesn't like-- but then adds it to the pile anyway.] Maybe you can use some of your people skills to convince someone to let us use the tools in this area. They've got some seriously sick machinery that'd be super useful.
no subject
Really wish Wasabi could be around if we're gonna be working with laser induced plasma.
[Though, glancing at the haphazard pile of materials they've stacked up in absolutely no order, he has a feeling that Wasabi might go on a rant about organization and how it connects to safety. He shakes his head, amused at the thought of that. One of the good things about Wasabi, though... he never had to go far for advice on how to best keep things in order.]
I can ask around. I've been talking to a girl named Rikku a few different times now, and she seems like she might have access to some stuff we could use. I can send her a text now and see if we can borrow some smaller tools to work on some of this back in that room beside ours. What're we thinking -- definitely a welder. Tabletop lathe? Metal benders for sure...
[He pulls his communicator from his pocket, accessing the proper screens as he talks and prepping the message.]
no subject
[Of course, he's not going to tell Tadashi that he helped transform Wasabi's lasers into plasma blades. Not now, anyway.
At Tadashi's question, Hiro turns and regards their pile of stuff with a hand to his chin.] Hmm. Vices, metal nibblers. Maybe some vernier calipers and arc welder if they've got one.
Rikku's the blonde one in engineering, right?
no subject
[Tadash's distracted for another half a moment as he stares at his phone, typing out the text and shooting it off before he looks up again.]
Yeah, that's her. She's nice. I promised to help her with a few projects. Got a little sidetracked with these headaches, but...
[He offers a shrug since he's not overly concerned. There should be plenty of time to lend a hand later.]
I saw some of the tech she's worked on. It's solid stuff.
no subject
Robots? Or something else?
no subject
[He slides his comm back into his pocket, careful to first key it to issue an alert if there's a reply, then he folds his arms over his chest and surveys the pile of materials waiting to be dragged back to their room. A robot would be useful right about now. Unfolding his arms again, Tadashi starts to roll up his sleeves, ready to tackle this part of the project.]
She made a couple of scouting bots. I've been meaning to meet up with her and try to take a closer look at their operating systems. Might give me a better idea of what's available for Baymax. I should really get on that... Might send her another text later.
[The comm buzzes and he slips it out of his pocket again, smiling as he reads the message.]
We're golden. She says to drop by the engineering bay sometime and she'll hook us up.
no subject
Though when Tadashi gets that reply from Rikku, he turns to look at his brother with a somewhat incredulous half-smile.]
Wow. Seriously? You convinced her to help us out just like that? What'd you do, promise a foot massage?
no subject
It's called being friendly. Where do you even come up with this stuff?
[And now texting Rikku back again would just be awkward. He resolves to do it later. When Hiro can't make off-the-wall remarks.]
no subject
Dude, she answered way too quick. I figured you had to have been offering something.
no subject
[He's carefully schooling his features into a nonchalant expression now, shrugging the entire line of conversation off. Experience has told him that reacting in any way will just be fuel for the fire.]
Anyway, what do you say we get this stuff back and get to work?
no subject
Sure. You lift that end, and I lift this one?
