[Rhys shows up on-camera, his brows furrowed slightly at the communications device. You're probably gonna notice pretty quickly that there's a mechanical port on the side of his head, and the corresponding eye is a bright, unnatural blue. And, of course, that he's sporting a yellow mechanical arm in place of an actual biological one.

But hey, nobody's perfect. Without much further ado, he turns the phone over so the camera is facing the floor, and there's definitely the sound of some buttons being pressed, some tampering that sounds like he's attempting to remove the back panel.]

Oh, for the love of- [The phone drops to the floor, the screen going dark. Rhys picks it up a minute later, flipping it back over so the camera is facing him again.] What kind of backwards tech is this? You have the technology to teleport us to different realities and you decide to give us an outdated ECHO recorder that my grandma could have built?

Look, is anyone on this junkheap versed with the network systems you've got going here? 'cause I've got the same functions in my arm and that's way more convenient for me. I've been trying to access it directly, but it'll probably take me awhile. If anyone knows how to cut corners, you know, now's the time to be helpful.

Also, hey. I'm Rhys: hero from Hyperion, new arrival, good with technology. [A pause, and then-] ...and if any of you are from Pandora, then you should know that I'm a totally laidback and innocent guy, and I didn't do it.

Makes sense. The Hyperion network is encrypted too, it's just... annoying that it's taking me so long to break into this one.

[Rey wouldn't be able to correct him either way. She's terrible with names as much as she is terrible at introducing herself to people. Rude.]

Try Ryuuzaki, he's the one in charge of that department. May not help with gaining entry to everything there is in the ship's network, since there are areas that we're still not able to access, but it's a start.

You know, you're the second person to recommend me to him. [He nods thoughtfully.] I guess I'll give him a ring.

[She falters a bit at his thanks, blinks.] You're welcome.

Am interested in whether or not your tech will play nice with the ship's. Could be-- ["useful" no wait that's kind of a piss way of phrasing it] --helpful.

[He sees right through your fancy words, Rey.]

The network and the actual ship database are probably kept on different levels entirely, but... [He drags the word out thoughtfully, tapping at his chin with a metal finger.] -it would be a good place to start.

[Shh, you see nothing.]

The database may even be in one of the areas we've been locked out of all this time. We've gotten bits and pieces of a subnetwork that possibly existed during the time the old crew was occupying the ship.

[Sorry, did she mention that there was an original crew who mysteriously vanished before they showed up? Did anyone mention that? She hopes you got the skinny on all that jazz.]

Oh- oh.

[His eyes light up at that (not... actually literally, the ECHO-eye doesn't start glowing, but they- it's a figure of speech, okay?), and Rhys leans forward a little, suddenly much more interested.]

I can help with that. I can definitely help with that. [The nerd button is being pushed a bit here, sorry bro.] How much do you know about it? The subnetwork, I mean, not the crew.

[Fuck the people, tbh, what's up with the tech they were using?]

[No worries, bro, something already told her that he wouldn't really give a shit about the people anyway. Just one of those things, bro.]

We're able to view some parts of the subnetwork, which is periodically updated with new -- or old, depending -- details that are password protected. [Subnetwork Numero Uno.]

The other one is usually updated to provide hints to the aforementioned passwords. [Subnetwork Numero Dos.]

So far the only information we're allowed from these subnetworks are the ones leaked to us from someone that lives elsewhere within the ship. If we can figure out where that is, am thinking it may be possible to access that database.

Supposedly. [Le shrug.]

[He checks out the links, scratching at his chin.]

Once I can hook my systems into the network, I should be able to run my own encryption programs on them. Probably won't succeed with flying colors at first, but it'll be a start. And then- I mean, if I can figure out how they're being built, if the signal can be traced...

[Cue some excited nerd muttering, because Rhys is so good at getting ahead of himself and thinking that he's totally capable of things that he actually won't be able to do at all. But it's okay, let him have this at least.]

[Rey may or may not be getting her hopes up a little, too. This is why she would never be much of an optimist.]

It's likely to take some work. Would like to help in any way -- have had a lot of time to learn about the tech here. Chances are it's different from what you're used to.

Different as in alien, or different as in 'so backwards I can't even tell which way it's facing'?

[Rhys snickers at his own unfunny joke, before shrugging.]

Help would be nice, though. Anything to figure out what the hell is going on here a little faster.

Depends on how advanced the tech you're used to is.

[She shrugs as well, not... quite getting the joke.]

Of course. Should probably meet in person sometime, to be safe. [She doesn't trust the network not to be hacked by... whoever they should be looking out for the most. Which at this point she's not even sure.]

I'd be down for that. I think you'll find that I'm a pretty trustworthy guy.

[No. Don't.]

And, you know, safety first, right? Let's do it.

[Flatly:] No doubt.

[She'll be the judge of who she finds trustworthy, but so far he seems relatively harmless, so. More like she's not worried, to say the least.]

Great. Not busy if you aren't. Am a little curious about your implants, too.

You and the rest of the ship, it seems.

[He shrugs, though he's still a little confused by the clamor over it. Not like it's that big of a deal in his universe, but still- lesser technologies and all that.]

I actually have free time here- which is weird- so I might as well make use of it. Where do you want to meet?

They just look a little different from the ones back home.

[Not to mention it just seems unhealthy for humans to mix their parts up with computers like that. What if you get hacked, bro?]

[Rhys smiles brightly at her. He could use a good packmule or two :'D]
