What do people do here other than the departments? I know I probably should join one but I don't know if I'd be any help.

( At least not yet, anyway. She needs to pull her head out of bad space first but at least she's not said she's never joining one. But Elena does at least know that she needs to do something )

I guess I mean like group stuff, not a personal 'what do you like to do'.

( Although anything could be helpful )

Where do you even start trying to find something new to do somewhere like this? It probably makes a difference if there are already groups. Or clubs. I'm hoping that there are.

I think most of us here are part of at least one department... [ Allison considers a moment. ] You'd probably be welcome, even if you don't think you can help.

But if you're looking for something that isn't work, Gwen Stacy is looking to plan a movie night. You could come to that, if you want.

I didn't even know there were movies here. It could be fun, though.

Well, we're still trying to figure out where we can find them. But when we do, I'll let you know?

Just as long as we don't have to start making them ourselves.

That's probably a disaster waiting to happen, if that's the case. I know nothing about making movies.

Go as dramatic as possible and hope it doesn't suck?

So like a soap opera?

But less trashy. It'll be great.

But the trash is part of the fun.

We could probably use trash with something else. Like trashy story telling with pretend fire and marshmallows.

Oh, like camping! We could probably get away with that in the gardens, you think?

Do we actually get marshmallows? At least we know the stars are out there.

If not marshmallows we can probably find something else. There's gotta be something we can cook on a campfire here.

I'll join the campfire food search party. Finders get to keep the best things.

It would probably help if that 'something new' was at least similar to something you know back home. Even if that's just in bare bones, so to speak.

[Fortescue can't really talk, she refuses to join the only department she has actual skills for. Because she told herself she was out of that kind of thing.]

I've been reading about the history of the ship. Or, what's been compiled, at least.

I just finished my first year at college, isn't that when you're supposed to try anything new?

( Like getting kidnapped by a spaceship, right? )

Does that history say much?

[She chuckles quietly.]

I don't know if space ship systems and body shots have that much in common, darling.

[Fort, in the future, kids start those earlier.]

It says a lot, but I don't know how pertinent it is. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Has anyone shared the documents with you yet?

No. People have told me a lot about the ship which is important but it's usually vaguer warnings.

Did you join a department?

I'll try to dig it back up, then.

And, uh. No. I don't know where I'd apply myself, really.

[Other than SEC, which she's more than qualified for. But she wants nothing to do with those particular talents of hers.]

It sounds like we need a space college. Someone mentioned about some internship thing, maybe they could help?

I'm certain someone around here at least knows an inkling of what needs to be done. Although [and here she shrugs, though Elena can't see it] it might just be decently educated guesses. No professors, no space college.

Then at least a job fair, or a week in each job to see what fits. If we have to do something.

As it was described to me, we don't have to do anything. But most people like something to do, I suppose.

[Fortescue is content not doing anything, after a life of being quite busy. And especially after the war. This is almost a vacation.]

I feel like I should do something in case it helps. And a lot of other people would probably tell you that you should.

[She chuckles, but it's something of a sardonic noise.]

They probably would, if they knew what I just got out of. [Fortescue would be good at SEC, for one.] I'm not one for volunteering, as of late.

Because of what you got out of? It doesn't sound like it was good.

Wars aren't good for anyone except the people selling ammunition.

[And maybe the government which "wins", but nobody really "wins" a war — in her opinion.]

No one ever seems to learn that.

Is it over at least? At home. If it was over you could stop there too.

It was over a few months ago. Took too long to find those responsible.

[She'd helped to cut the jugular, so to speak.]

There was a war when I was a girl, too, though I'm too young to really remember it. But the threat of war has been a constant.

At least there isn't war here even if it isn't always that pleasant.

[Fortescue would say that's debatable, but at least the majority of the people on the ship are alive. Far better than war.]

You're right. Let's hope we never get one. I've spent most of my entire bloody life in times of war.

kay, but I don't know if they'd do anything.

Not a terrible lot; I sometimes sit and sew with the Queen Nuala in the gardens. But other than that, many with whom I once did such things have since departed the ship.

Perhaps we should organize such a group here, Elena. I think it would do those involved naught but good.

A sewing group or a different group?

( Some teasing involved. She doesn't know if she has the patience to sew but it would be nice to have a group of something - at least it would be a group with talking )
