001. video.
[ hey there, TQ, here's an unfamiliar face. for now, anyway - you'll see a lot more of it, if this ship keeps being a giant piece of shit.
okay, maybe this ship is actually kind of spectacular, especially compared to what was left of the ark. but that doesn't mean she's any kind of thrilled when she turns on the camera and gives it the dryest of looks (only made worse by the telltale signs of whatever the hell sickness is going around). ]
If anyone needs lift 3, you might as well take the stairs. [ don't tell her there aren't any stairs, she already knows. the point being made is, this puppy's stuck hard and fast.
raven glances up at the ceiling, then at one of the panels along the wall. ]
Hope nobody minds if I fix this stupid mess while I'm in here. [ it's a little offhanded, but she's already prying at one of the panels. ] You can thank me later.
[ then the feed turns off. ]

video.
jasper's looking down at his communicator with a quiet worried look.]
Raven, what floor did you get stuck on?
video.
his question has her glancing down to the lift's interface, though only for a second before her eyes are back on whatever she's doing. ]
Looks like it's closest to oh-twenty-two. [ yes, 'closest to'. it may have stuck her partially in between levels. ]
video.
If this sort of thing is going to be a regular problem, we might want to think of stocking up on things to keep in our rooms. Non perishable things, anyway. Just in case.
video.
video.
Do you think things are failing because this ship is dying too? Just like the Ark?
video.
video.
it's a lurking fear nonetheless.] You'll keep an eye on it though?
video.
video.
jasper smiles at her when she looks over at him. there's still worry in his eyes, that hasn't really left him since he took that grounder spear the chest, and he sort of doubts it ever will. but he's not too steps away from falling into a panic at the idea of the ship dying around them either.
and then the elevator, miracle of miracles, lets him out at the floor he asked. well. one floor up, anyway. jasper quickly lets himself off the elevator before it has a chance to change it's mind.]
You were stuck in elevator three, right?
video.
video.
Are you okay?
[and then a moment later] Are you having any luck?
video.
Where are you at?
video.
[he moves the communicator around a bit so she can see for herself.]
They're talking about how sometimes all it takes is another person pushing the buttons to make it work, so I thought I'd be nearby in case you couldn't get it to work.
[and then he adds, almost idly.] I wanted to be closer to you while you were stuck, too.
video.
which means she should probably quit screwing around in this mess of wires and take the out he's offering. ] Go ahead and give it a shot, [ raven concedes, a little grudgingly. otherwise she'd probably be here all day, which she's totally okay with (the trials and tribulations of being way too proud for her own good) but she's not gonna make him deal with. this time, at least. ]
video.
Are you away from the wall, Raven?
video.
video.
[and then he presses the button.]
video.
by the time the door opens, raven's already shut her communicator off and closed the wires back into the panel. ]
Better luck next time, I guess. [ re: fixing it herself. but she's not actually too horribly disappointed. more glad to be done with it either way. she likes a challenge, but not with jasper hovering right outside. ]
action.
Of course after all of this, we might just both end up trapped all over again, but at least if it happens this way we'll be stuck together, right?
[because if it's the two of them together, they can do anything, right raven??]
action.
Just in case I need a chemist, [ she fires back, because sass with underlying fondness is kind of her forte. or... just sass in general. ]
action.
You never know when you'll need a chemist. [jasper says agreeably.] we come in handy in all sorts of circumstances.
video. why not what the hey, he's in engineering after all
like this.]
I... don't know how much luck you're going to have, honestly?
video. twice the stiles, twice the fun??
without looking to the camera to see who she's even talking to, she says: ] Good thing I do. [ her tone's not even that cocky, just assured and half-distracted with what she's up to. ]
video. or something like that
No, I mean-- we've run all sorts of diagnostics on the systems and nothing's reading as malfunctioning. And poking about in the wires hasn't seemed to help yet anyway.
video.
video.
Manual overrides haven't really been working out either. [at least his expression right now shows that he kind of feels bad for having to tell you this, raven. he does add a moment later though;]
Far be it for me to stop you from trying though, if you have any luck I'd love to hear about it. Better than just hitting our heads against a wall like it feels like we're doing lately.
Uh. If you could put the wall back when you're done though? That would be awesome too.
video.
video.
video.
video.
What's your name?
video.
video.
video.
video.
It started small but it's getting worse. This isn't the first time something strange has happened on the ship, not even close.
Usually we need to worry about getting lost in the darker part of the hallways but lately it seems like the hallways have been spitting people back out.
Which I'd like to be happy about but I can't help but think it's only going to end poorly.
Sorry.
video.
video.
That's usually what people say when they don't know how bad what the darkness holds can be.
video. i misread my last tag as 'bleeding out my ass' jsyk
video. i literally had to read it like 5 times before i read it right
video.
video;
Um. It seems you've got it covered, but just a reminder - in case the hallways suddenly decide to let you go down them, don't go off on them on your own. They can be more than a little dangerous, and I think most of these... glitches do get better, eventually. And the kitchens are likely stocked enough to last you until then.
At least I hope it wears off pretty soon.
[ Look, he's usually more coherent when he's less feverish. Promise. ]
If you need anything, I'm Robin and I'm in Communications, I can probably try to brave another elevator and get it to you. Or get you from wherever you're stuck. But fixing things will probably be cool.
video;
Why, what's wrong with the hallways?
not here;
video;
The ones that are lit up, in the designated available areas? Mostly nothing. People have said that some of them might move, during jumps, but - for the most part - they're okay.
The ones outside and between those areas? The ones that we basically have to take the elevators for? Teal deer, they'll screw you up, and might even kill you.
For the full most recent information, you can read the attached message. I know it's long, but it'll give you some idea.
[ And Dick's put in a link to this. ]
If you click on Commander Shepard's audio message from there, that's... not very fun. Just as a heads-up.
video;
the idea that the actual place they live is going to be trying to kill them is certainly troublesome though. they escape radiation just to deal with this? not fair at all.]
Is this why there were all those warnings when we arrived about sticking to the first ten floors?
video; in which bird-named teens make sorta-friends
to answer the rest just so it's out of the way: ] I'm pretty sure I've got it, [ she says, glancing back to the wiring for a second. she hasn't got it right at this second - she means she's got it covered in a general sense. ] But thanks. [ ....right, she didn't introduce herself. ] Raven Reyes. I was a zero-G mechanic back on the Ark. [ not that it means jack shit to most anyone here, but. ]
video; yes, good. All the friends, all the time.
[ It's in the LONG text he linked, but, well. ]
In case that's not the case with you, please be careful. So far, these glitches like the elevator have come off okay in the end, so it should be fine. And, um. [ Because engineering. ] I'm not sure that helps any, but monitoring the communications devices when they glitch suggests that they seem to think that the user has put in the wrong command. Still working on why. But, basically, the elevator is okay. Something's just interfering with how it interprets what you're telling it to do.
[ He's pretty sure anyone with an engineering background is driven bonkers by this mess, so, he shares what he knows. ]
What's the Ark? Sorry, people here really come from different worlds. Universes. And times. So a lot of questions are par for the course.
video;
[ all of this while she goes back to fiddling with the wiring, since raven's good at multitasking. ]
As far as anyone knew for the last century and a half, it was all that was left of humanity. Took less than a day planetside to prove them wrong, but hey.
video; so abysmally late, caaan drop and pick up sth else later?
Hope this place is more like a vacation for you than just. Worse than home.
[ Beat. ]
I'm pretty sure that tone suggests that the encounter could have gone better.
