[Bug is determined to figure out his little device thing. And, with enough poking and prodding, he finally does! The face that appears on the comm appears to be in its early twenties, and is smiling with surprise and excitement.]

I did it! It's on! [Still smiling, Bug clears his throat and starts again.] Greetings, fellow Starship Rangers! My name is Bug, and I am new to this starship. I'm looking for some other Rangers who were with me before I got here. I'm looking for Commander Up, and Lieutenant Taz, and Specs and Krayonder, and Tootsie Noodles and Mega Girl. And, most importantly, I'm looking for the most beautiful shience* officer ever, February. [He sighs over the name the way no one has ever sighed over the word February before. He also lists off ridiculous names like Tootsie Noodles as though they're the most normal names ever. As though he's asking for Brian, Lauren, or Joe.]

Anybody who can help me find them, I'd really appreciate it! In the meantime, I'd like to help out however I can, because I'm a Starship Ranger, and I'm here to get the job done!

[Bug stares hard at his device.]

That is writing. I do not know what it means but I know that it is writing.

[ Well perhaps Parker should have seen that one coming. Off-screen, there's a mild wince, before he opts for not being a dick and flicks to video feed. ]

Yep, that was writing. Sorry. I said that I hadn't heard any of those names personally here -- sorry -- and also asked what a Starship Ranger does?

Hi, Peter, I'm Bug. A Starship Ranger travels the galaxy seeing new worlds and meeting strange and fascinating creatures and is basically the coolest person around.

[There's a hint of pride at being called a real Starship Ranger, but it's mostly covered by sadness at realizing none of his friends are here.]

What exactly is a Starship Ranger?

What's a Starship Ranger? Why, a Starship Ranger is somebody who sees new worlds-- we come to conquer, in peace!-- meets strange and fascinating creatures-- I wouldn't say strange-- escapes the horrible robot wars of Earth, and boldly goes where no man-- hey!-- woman-- woof woof!-- or data dog has gone before, sorry P90X!

[He's clearly quoting something verbatim.]

I mean, Starship Rangers are the coolest people in the universe! I've always wanted to be a Starship Ranger, my whole life, and now I am!

[That gets a smile in reply]

Well, so long as you come in peace, right? That's the important part. But what's this about horrible robot wars on Earth?

You don't know? I thought all humans would know about the Robot Wars! Robots turning against their creators... It was awful.

Or so I hear, anyway.

It must not have happened yet in my time... or happened in an alternate one. Either way makes sense.

I take it you're not human, then?

[Uh oh, panic time. Bug gets noticeably nervous.]

No, I am definitely human. 100 percent Grade A human being.

[He's not a great liar. And he knows he'll regret lying to people eventually, but what if they dont react well to bugs? Best to ease into it, he thinks.]

[Jennifer tries to hide a smirk, deciding to humor him.]

Of course- not that there's be anything wrong with not being a human.

There's not? [ He sounds hopeful. ] I mean... of course there's not. But I'm human. Like I said.

Not at all. If you weren't human, of course.

[Ugh, he shouldn't be lying to people. Again. But he was so scared they'd reject him if they knew, and now it seems like she won't...]

Hey, can you keep a secret?

I worked for the government back home, so I am well versed at secret keeping.

[ There's that word again. Government. Bug still doesn't know what it means, but he doesn't like the sound of it.

He pokes at his communicator. ]

D'you have any idea how to make these things go private?

I think so- hold on...

[Jennifer can be seen fiddling with some settings, til she thinks it's private. Probably not 100%, but there's some degree.]

OK, I think I got it.

[ She's probably better at it than he is, just guessing at what all the writing says. ]

Okay. [ He takes a deep breath before coming out with his planet-shattering confession: ] I'm not human.

I'd guessed. I've known some aliens in my time, so I'm not shocked.

Really? [ He's torn between feeling dejected that she'd seen the truth right away and feeling excited that she knows other aliens. ]

Oh, but of course. You must be a Starship Ranger. I bet you've met lots of aliens!

Not any sort of Ranger; I was just a doctor onboard the lost city of Atlantis. ... If that means anything to you.

[ He shakes his head. ]

Nope, sorry. Never heard of it. But that's cool! You must be really smart, to be a doctor.

It was a beautiful city... it sat in the middle of an ocean.

[She smiles.]

Well, thank you for saying so. It's what I love doing, and I was working with some great people.

Oh wow, I've never seen an ocean before.

Are you going to be a doctor here?

I'll never forget my first sight of it.

Yeah, as long as I'm here, I might as well- it seems like my services are sorely needed.

[The face on screen is a slightly wide eyed boy]

I haven't heard those names before. But did you travel on a spaceship before?

[My, you're a small human.]

I did. Well, not travel, really, it was in orbit around my planet.

[A particularly small one, really. He looks closer to eight or nine than the eleven or twelve he actually is.]

Going into space at all is amazing.

[ Bug smiles, a warm, friendly smile. ]

Then I guess we're all pretty amazing.

I guess that's true. This ship is marvelous.

It sure is. [Any starship is.]

Have you been here long?

Four months. Not long enough to try all the food yet.

[Priorities. His are very... street urchin.]

[That earns him a grin.]

And I bet there's a lot of food to try, this being such a big starship.
