[audio] Comms PSA
[Filtered away from Charlotte Daniau and Joseph Davis.]
[L's voice is smoother than he is in person — low, slightly English-accented, calm and articulate and completely assured. He hasn't had much call to make public announcements on the ship in the past, but Nathan has left it in his lap this time, and he's not a stranger to addressing a crowd in this kind of capacity.]
Greetings. This is Ryuuzaki, speaking on behalf of the Communications Department.
The corrupted audio message sent by Charlotte Daniau originated in the Crew Quarters, which are located several levels below the bridge. Natasi has already transmitted the fully restored version of the recording, which matches ours.
Obviously, we would advise caution in entering that area, but we can confirm that it's currently accessible. Those of you who are interested in pursuing this might also check in with Security to see how they intend to handle it.
The other voice in the transmission appears to that of Joe Davis, the only passenger from the nineteenth jump. We don't know his status, but in my opinion -- [at this point, very slight irritation creeps into his voice] -- this recording throws any information we've received from him in the past into question.
[He knew they should have interrogated Joe properly, even as he wonders now if it would have done any good. If Joe was here on an operation, he might have been very hard to break.
In any case, while things don't sound good for The (Putative) Man From Pernambuco, this is all formatted with the express intent of not tipping off either Joe or Charlotte. It's possible that Charlotte could use the reassurance, but L doesn't think it's a risk worth taking.]
[OOC notes: This is the second half of the information needed to launch CharlotteQuest on the 6th. IC-ly, it should be considered to have happened just long enough after Caprica Six/Natasi's post for characters to have started thinking about what to do about what they heard and even for them to have started conversations about it on that earlier post, if you want (even if you haven't yet started them before this post went up, in OOC time). Another idea is for other characters who were working on this and whose players want it noted that they solved it to pipe up and confirm the accuracy of what was posted.
L will talk to anyone who seems to want to talk to him in particular, if that happens, but also feel free to use this post to continue making plans, volunteer, work things out, whatever! He probably won't get involved in those other kinds of conversations past a comment or two, and other Comms people may hop into them, too.]

Re: voice;
However, if you decide to go exploring, Communications will keep an eye out for you as much as we can.
Just try not to make Tyke angry.
voice;
Indeed, try not to, because Tyke's "anger" stems from people doing things that endanger them and the people around them. If Tyke is "angry," odds are it's because you've done something foolish that will hurt the people around you.

[An Ops manual? A debriefing? Sarcasm there, but it's obviously not directed at Jack; it's contempt directed at Joe, and at the general mistake of not having gone at him hard enough, collectively.]
But everything else, too. I'm not certain we can believe everything that he told any of us about van Rijn, although it may still be accurate, and there have been other possible sources -- Joe wouldn't have been completely aware of what we'd already heard, and he wouldn't have wanted to make the mistake of contradicting earlier sources too fully.

If you're interested in Van Rijn, though. We do know that Tranquility was Van Rijn's baby. And an expensive one at that. I've got some propaganda posters pilfered from the Cyllene to prove it. And word on the street on Arima didn't exactly paint a pretty picture about him either.
[Spending a lot of time trying to gather information about the whereabouts of the kidnapped crowd during that time, keeping his ear to the ground, Jack definitely got the chance to hear some things.]

We learned two things after that. The first was the missing number, along with the fact that there was a passenger who corresponded to it -- a farmer from a place called Pernambuco on Pasiphae who claimed that his name was Joseph Davis. All the new arrivals apart from him were 020s. The second was that we had been in stasis for about a year.

Got it, thanks.
We probably would've looked less like we're clutching our undone pants to our collective ass if we'd looked for outside skills earlier. People here would fucking pick the least convenient minute to suddenly feel proactive.
( harry has remarkably little regard for most of the tranquility's passengers, although in fairness he's not really criticising natasi in that way, given...she is in medical, he can see it on her number. still, the pearl-clutching 'why didn't you tell security' is starting to grate on him. )

[ firmly, arms crossed. ] He's a good man.
[ She knows this looks bad, but she doesn't doubt Joe after spending time with him aboard the Cyllene. He protected her. ]

His cover identity is a good man. A cover identity would only have been successful if he had acted in accordance with it. He needed us to think he was a good man... whether or not he is one is irrelevant.

What the hell is going on here?
text; info dump ahoy
Charlotte is presumably a member the original Tranquility crew, loyal to Captain Gallagher (the first captain, unseated in murky circumstances, with his current status equally murky). A few jumps back she made her presence known to us by damaging key ship systems and equipment in an attempt to stop the drive — the jump drive, that is, which is propelling us through time and space to an unknown location. She wasn't entirely in her right mind, particularly considering her memory gaps and perception of time. In fact, she may have been temporally displaced. Notably, she believed the jump drive to be the source of our trouble and implied that half of the original crew has become murderous. I have theories about that, but we'll stick to facts for now. Essentially, she was saying what you and I know to be true better than most: time energy corrupts.
If the drive is as dangerous as she thought, it may have done just that. Regardless, I assume she failed on all accounts, as passengers like ourselves combated her efforts by repairing the damage to the ship, and we are still experiencing jumps. Notably, she stated that if we all died, but the drive was destroyed, it would be worth it in the end. She also helps out in medical, though I suspect she avoids interaction with other members of the department when possible, which leads me to believe she has our best interests in mind.
She recently attempted a second-hand transmission, but the result was scrambled, to say the least, possibly by an outside source (or simply the conditions of the ship itself). Natasi broadcasted the clearest version of the transmission salvageable just a few hours ago. As far as I can tell, Charlotte is NOT the female voice in the recording.
However, the male voice belongs to Joseph Davis, a mysterious passenger who arrived with the number nineteen in his nanites during the twentieth jump. It seemed as though everyone else remained in stasis for the duration of the nineteenth jump, except Jaye, who survived outside the pods because of her shape shifting ability. The amount of time that she perceived as passing during the jump was far more than we suspected. She and forensic evidence confirm that a year passed. She was never the same after that.
For his part, Joe is largely unassuming, claiming to only know of the Tranquility through the media on his home planet. However, he did support Van Rijn, the man who commissioned the Tranquility. Of course, it sounds like most people did.
I've spoken to him several times and consider him a friend. When the ship docked at a space station, he accompanied me and helped me return safely. As far as I'm concerned, this does not prove he was lying to us or anything of the sort.
