[There a click on, and the clear sound that someone is there, but there's a pause, like maybe someone is making sure.]
Is this broadcast going through?
I think I got it-
Hello, Tranquility, my name is Steve Rogers.
I'd like to be directed to whoever is in charge of Security, if that's not too much trouble. And I'd like to know if it's possible to see out into space. Are there any windows on board?
[Annnnd a pause, and a fumble.]
Is it off?
[And then another pause.]
Sorry, excuse me-
[And NOW it's off.]

[ and she suspects that it is, perhaps as powerful as the bifröst. but it's only that: a suspicion. until jane can get up close to the machine, she can only speculate. ]

[ in a word: cool. ]

[She is much smarter than he is he can tell.]

[ she's not lying, but it hasn't taken her long to realise that people do that quite often. and in an outfit such as this, it would be beneficial to do so. if jane wants captain rogers (CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!) to believe and trust her expertise, she needs to put forth some actual proof. besides, she's a scientist; she just can't state something as revolutionary as "A WORMHOLE BROUGHT US HERE!!!1" without providing evidence. she can't state something like that without making sure he understands. ]
an example of a traversable wormhole, i.e. a wormhole that can be crossed in both directions. since people enter and leave here, i can assume that whatever kind of machine brought us here is also capable of sending us back.

No really just.

Oh.

Oh! By the way, I'm Jane. Sorry. [ an apologetic note colours her voice. ]

[Pause.]
Are you...a professor?

I do have tenure, but I avoid teaching classes like it's the plague.

How about you? Weren't you a starving artist on the outside? [ if jane remembers her history classes correctly that is...
she always preferred science over history, so her history knowledge (especially over wwii) is lacking. she really only remembers things relating to howard stark and, since captain america is closely related to him, she remembers some faint details. ]

[Did the propaganda put that out? He remembers seeing the comics but he never read them.]
Well, we weren't exactly feasting but starving's a little extreme.
[But he says it like he's smiling, and he is.]
Did you watch the movies?

[ no, it wasn't something the propaganda released, but it was something that jane's eleventh grade us history emphasized however. her teacher wanted to show that bravery comes from all avenues of life and that everyone is capable of becoming a hero. jane couldn't stand the overblown blind patriotism of captain america, but she always admired the courage he inspired. ]
Once. In high school. They were kind of uh...
[ she pauses, searching for the right word. ]
Corny. [ dammit. she tried softening the blow by thinking of another word but she couldn't. at least he can't call her a liar though. ]

If you keep the plot details to yourself, I would be really grateful.
[Even the propaganda films from the front lines, later, which were a little better, still makes him fidget with embarrassment.]
The war effort and I didn't always agree.
no subject
I don't recall a plot, but I — I won't spoil it.
[ honestly she doesn't. jane just remembers captain america punching hitler in the face while japanese stereotypes wildly flailed their arms about in the background. ]
Oh yeah? Did they come up with the dance numbers?
