[ the feed starts to complete blackness — it resolves itself into a clearer picture of a leather uniform once aramis steps back, though he also just so happens to be upside down. at least aramis has learned enough in his days aboard the tranquility so far that he notices and fixes it a moment later, leaving it lopsided, but the right way around.

he steps back a little further, coming to stand next to porthos. they are both armed, swords strapped to their sides, and not in the ship's jumpsuits but rather in their leather uniforms.

aramis holds a pistol, considering it. his voice is thoughtful. ]

They do say I am quite good with these.

[ porthos, for his part, is still staring suspiciously at the sleek looking square on his end. but he lets up long enough to add - ]

Finest in all of France, I’d wager. The better to serve their Majesties, King Louis XIII and Queen Anne.

[ it’s a spiel they’ve been through before. aramis’ eyes narrow. ] Speaking of their Majesties — if they are here as well, rest assured that we will find them and not look kindly on anyone who has committed treason and harmed them.

[ there’s a gruff hemm of his throat, before porthos adds; ] And if you’ve done likewise with two men who go by Athos and D’Artagnon, it may not be treason, but we’ll be looking just as unkindly.

[ aramis smiles at that, cheerful almost despite the dangerous edge to it. ] To those who are likewise captives, we swear to aid you where we can.

[ and he tips his head. ]

[ She tucks her device away in her pocket. It takes no time to leave her room, step into the elevator and ride it up one floor. Using the numbers, she finds his door. It always feels silly when the doors slide open but she knocks anyway. ]

( while waiting, he replies to others and informs porthos of his intentions to visit the gardens, and when there is a knock on the door, he is ready to depart: dressed as on the video in his musketeer's uniform, all leather, sword strapped to his side, hat perched atop his head as it should be. )

[ excuse her, but she's caught off guard, if only because she saw the video and yet -- here he is in full ... garb. ]

Hey. Bonnie. Since we're meeting in person. [ she offers a hand. ]

( lifting his hat clean off his head, not quite bowing but inclining his head. )

[ oh. okay. she brings her hand back. ] You ready? [ and like lizzie before them ] I brought a blanket. It helps. [ makes it feel like a picnic if he'd like. ]

( now he holds out his arm to her, not to shake her hand but to escort her. he is, after all, a gentleman — or at least knows how to act like one. )

I am looking forward to these gardens.

[ she snakes an arm through his ] Gentlemanly. [ A beat. ] You should. They're my favorite place on the ship. Come on. [ she turns and begins to walk the two of them back to the elevators ] Your friend's nice. [ less attractive than you jsyk ]

I do try. ( the corners of his mouth quirk up at her remark. ) Ah, Porthos. Yes. ( and the smile turns less mischievous, but no less honest for it. ) He is indeed.

[ but enough about him, he's not here. you are. boom. ] You're lucky you came here with a friend. I have friends here, too, and other people from home. I've also met people who have no one. [ they meet people, sure, but having a support system. it's important ]

They make new friends. Some even make this home. I've met people who like it better here than where they're from. I'm still on the fence with that. You probably haven't been here long enough to get there.

Witches are not real, as far as I know. [ the label is one used by the church to silence inconvenient women; there is nothing supernatural about it as far as he's aware. ]
