Good evening, Tranquility. I have two queries, unrelated.

With regards to the science department, I'd like to be directed towards any appointed leaders in this structure, as I have some general questions that might save me a bit of reading. Both in regards to whether I can be of assistance, and what has happened previously. I refer, of course, to the laboratories.

My second question pertains to the red-worded Smiley character. I think it wants this Charlotte person harmed, as opposed to simply found. As much as I too find her posting rather concerning, I'm moved to wonder what it could possibly gain from her being stopped. Or silenced.

I realise neither of those possess a single question mark. You'll have to humour me. You're welcome to use the picture/sound communications if that's easier.

If I were to make a guess, I'd say Comms' encryptions are the fourth strongest on the ship, but a lot of it is piggybacking off code written years ago. I can teach you to do it from the ground up, but if it's anyone but another passenger you're trying to avoid it won't do you much good.

I'm going to be awake all night so if you want to talk existential Smiley stuff with me too, be my guest.

Learning a thing or two about encryptions wouldn't do me any harm, even so. Perhaps I'll take you up on it when I'm particularly desperate for something to do.

As for Smiley, I'm not sure I could keep up. But I found the encouragement towards siccing scared, angry kidnapped passengers after this woman fairly suspect.

How much do you trust it?

I wrote a ground-up code and it's pretty secure. I don't think you can encrypt things magically, though.

Well, I should probably say that there are ways to do it as long as you aren't trying to filter it away from the mysterious Smiley and others like it. Either they've got a way to hacking that puts my skills to shame, or there's some kind of omniscient thing going on there. Not sure which.

And encrypting is at least a little complicated, otherwise I suspect you're doing it incorrectly. [ Non-serious, a smile eking in his voice. ]

Apparently I used to be in the science department, although I've no memory of anything about this place to speak of. It would keep me out of trouble, wouldn't it?

I don't really know much about Smiley personally, but I've got a bad feeling about him or it or whatever calling out Charlotte all the same. Then again, I guess I don't really know much about Charlotte either.

I wouldn't hate knowing more about this secure posting stuff, though.

Not knowing much of anything is standard around here, i wouldn't feel too badly. I'd say your instincts are right on target all the same.
What sort of things would you like to know about security? I've gotten some offers but it is definitely not my area i'm afraid.
