I'm not a scientist, so some reassurance I'm not talking out of my ass would be great.

[ Everyone bullshits to be honest. ]
That's one option of what could happen. Time's messy and not— You're not supposed to fuck with it because you wouldn't know something's going wrong. Not really. Unless you're in tune to that sort of shit. For that entire thing to work though— if you're arguing that the echoes are all heading to the same end point, the boom, the colder parts are farther away. Or have to be.

And yeah, that would sort of be the idea. Like the gardens being tropical, and the medical bay being uncomfortably cold. Shuttle bay's a good temperature, and residencies are unpredictable, like, you know--like someone's twiddling a thermostat somewhere, and it's gone haywire.

Not someone— the differences don't make sense for someone to be twiddling them unless you've got a lot of tentacles attached to you. Computer system, someone programming it that way and making it appear normal when you look for it, now that could work.

K. Something goes wrong because you've put some virus or are just fucking around with a system. People trying to find it should see where it's coming from and either neutralize it or fix it. Or say fuck it and we're screwed. Unless you've got whatever you're doing set up— to seem completely normal. Like a cloak. We can't see you breaking shit or where the shit's being broken because everything looks normal.
Even though it's clearly not.
