Afternoon! I am Meriadoc Brandybuck, and as a bit of an effort to combat some of the awfulness around us with more cheerful things, I figured I might take the time to get some of the more legal aspects of certain events out of the way. If anyone can direct me to a lawyer of some sort, I'd appreciate the help in drawing up some documents.

[ Things like, say, a will & testament, a marriage license, and something not-unlike adoption papers if still different. Best be prepared. ]

I understand that very few people have any concept of Hobbit Legal Code, but I can certainly help on those aspects, so long as someone knows the basics of civil contracts.

[ There is a pause, as he looks down and fiddles with something in his lap before returning the camera ]

Also! If anyone has talents in baking or other things I would be most interested in recruiting your help for a way to lift spirits.

[ There isn't much use raging over things that can't be changed, and bright hearts and good feelings do amazing things in the face of despair. Merry knows something of that. ]

Perhaps you could be over service, then? I'd imagine you must also have the authority to authorize them. [ Marriage licenses need those sort of things, yes? An officiator and such. He is smilng up at you so wide somebody helpful who knows this stuff; this is amazing. ]

There are some documents I need to make, and while I am well versed in the particulars, such as the inks and witnesses required, I am not so sure how to draft the documents themselves. Any assistance would be quite lovely.

I do already have someone willing to help, but I will need more witnesses [seven witnesses, to be exact ] and extra assistance on the specifics of how to frame the document would be helpful!

I am looking to draft a marriage license as well as a last will and testament, as well as something a bit more specific to hobbits. I could go into detail later, perhaps?

Almost everything actually! [ Ambitious, much? ] My birthday should come at the end of next jump, you see, and it is customary among us hobbits to throw rather large parties for all those we invite and all those who rather wander in.

Lots of food and drink and that sort of thing are a must. [ They eat seven Mannish-meals a day; hobbits are big on that sort of thing. ]

I was thinking cakes and pies and pastries, and possibly some bread and scones and biscuits...

[ Before Merry can get lost in the reverie of food, he remembers where he is. ]

Er.. sorry, but yes, as there is a need for lots of food, I was hoping I could have some other help? Since I don't have my family here to assist, and I would like to have plenty for anyone and everyone who needed a lift in spirits!

I am a hobbit! We are a peoples, much like Men and Elves and Dwarves and Ents. [ Y'all have at least one of those types of things, right? ]

We tend to mind our own business and not get involved in the affairs of big folk, and our ways are a tad different, and more exacting I think. There are special rules involved in legal documents.

Documents are needed for lots of things! Like marriages and some presents and Wills!

[ When mortals die they make papers that tell their family who gets their stuff because otherwise they'd probably be idiots and fight over it like shinies. ]

Pancakes and Waffles are quite excellent! I'd nearly forgotten about those! Perhaps there might even be some berries in the Gardens to mix into them... I shall have to investigate... [ He turns away from the screen a bit, jotting down some reminders. ]

Would you mind helping me with those waffles and cupcakes? I am planning a party towards the end of next jump, and I would like to make sure I have enough food for everyone and anyone who would wish to drop in!

Well, wedding always need such things, but the rest are for later. After all that I have experienced and all that I have met, I would hate for my things to be considered wrong because all my paperwork isn't in order!
