[ after the jump teresa expected things to make more sense, like something would reveal itself, but it hasn't. if anything it poses more questions than answers. there seems to be only one place to go for that. nothing else to lose at this point. (she'd been meaning to ask earlier anyway.)

with soft black hair falling around tensed-up shoulders and pale skin glowing in contrast, she looks into the recording. her face doesn't display much emotion besides a tired concentration and slight quiver to her lip. it's been a long few days, but she does her best to hide it. ]

So, it's like going from one creepy experiment to the next. Ever thought that maybe that's what this place is? A test? A code to be deciphered? From it seems like, every month something horrible happens. Couldn't those all be variables we're supposed to respond to a certain way? Things probably won't change until we do.

[ right or wrong, teresa speaks from experience, so she sounds confident about this theory. she looks like she wants to ask a million more questions, but she stops her theorizing there. ]

Anyway, I'm Teresa. New-ish. I know we're sick of hearing about the temperature, but I'm not the only one whose room is freezing, right? I thought the heat was bad before, but no. This is actually worse. I could use a jacket or something if anyone has some extra clothes I can borrow.

[ because she would really like to go to bed and not wake up with hypothermia. ]

I'm not in a position to be picky. But maybe I should come get it from you. It sounds like at least one of us isn't living in the Arctic.

Peeta. [ so that's introductions out of the way. he looks equally interested and amused, tone light. ] I have an extra suit in my locker, but it's a bit formal.

[ mostly offered up as a joke, though he'd obviously give it to her if she really wanted it. he obviously doesn't need it at the moment - he's wearing the TQ jumpsuit, collar open and sleeves rolled up. ] Are you good at solving codes?

I don't think looking nice is going to make the cold go away. [ she appreciates the light attempt at humor because it's a nice break from ... well, everything else. ] Thank you anyway.

[ teresa has her communicator propped up on her knees, which are drawn up near her chest. she smiles a little, obviously not shy about this. ] Oh yeah. That's how we got ourselves out of being trapped before all of this happened.

It's easier to think of each thing as a test to get through it. But I think overall it's a mystery to do with the original purpose of the ship and what happened to the crew.

Of course that purpose could be testing.

Even if it's not, it might be the only way to survive. But I mean, what else could they want us for?

Then congratulations. [ she's half serious when she says that. ] I don't know. We'll probably be moved to the next phase.

What i'd like to know is who hasn't thought this place was a test.

And how do you think we should respond?

Maybe in ways they wouldn't expect. Something that might trigger us to finding a solution or an ending. But considering the situation keeps changing, I don't think there's a single answer.

[ that's probably not too far off from what they're viewed as, honestly, but maybe that isn't the most optimistic outlook. ]

Cracking the code behind this place might make it worse.

[ getting too close to the truth can do that, but it's always better not to be left in the dark. ]

I don't see how things could get worse than not doing anything about it. They would probably throw more variables at us.

If each individual occurrence is a test, then it could be argued we've passed simply by surviving. The other results aren't quite as favourable.

Surviving could be what they want, as twisted as their methods are. Especially if they need us for something. [ there's a pause as she looks over him, surveying him. whether it's just his personality, he sounds like he knows quite a lot. that, and she's still a little wary of adults. ] Are you familiar with experiments?
