two ❈ video
[The video comes to life in a flourish of black feathers.
There's the caw of a raven, and when the device is adjusted better so that its audience can see the broadcaster, Loki can be seen standing with his arm extended. The aforementioned raven sits on his forearm, head cocked to the side and seeming to look into the feed with something akin to curiosity.
Another ruffle of feathers, and a second raven sits seated on Loki's left shoulder. The sight would be almost comical if not for the fact that there is something oddly imposing about the birds -- large in size, to be certain, but something about their demeanor exhibits a certain cleverness of thought that most ravens would not possess.
Loki smiles. Anyone who has met him before may notice that his hair is a bit longer, but other than that he appears the same. The backdrop is those of the oxygen gardens.]
I've returned to the ship, and yet I've not been gone that long at all, have I? Strange how time is twisted into something incomprehensible in an instance such as this -- but I hardly have a right to complain. Asgard was a reprieve, even in confinement. Svartalfheim was... [He trails off, choosing the right words.] Well. Lacking in a certain glory, but the dark elves were never ones for gilded appearances. I suppose it's a fitting enough battlefield for a glorious death.
I'd like to call it that, at least. Sacrificial. [A twist of his lips, irony escaping his mouth.] Mother would have been proud. Perhaps Odin, as well.
But I digress. [Both ravens then caw loudly, as if on cue.] It seems that despite everything, I've been granted a couple of friends from home. Meet Huginn and Muninn, the King's ravens. Huginn is the one with the annoyed look in his gaze, and Muninn is the one without it. Say hello, the both of you.
[And then (as if also on cue), both birds simply fly off to make their perch in a nearby tree. Loki only laughs, as if this was to be expected.]
Ah. Well. There is always room for improvement, as they say.
[private to mcu!Thor; not really encrypted at all because lol Asgardians encrypting things]
I take it you're still here. In which case I think we may have things we wish to discuss.

video;
Hello Huginn, Muninn. If you need anything from the gardens, I'm happy to help.
[ ... oh. She should say hello to Loki too, she supposes. ]
In my world, gods only die if there's no one left to believe in them, and the Norse always thought they would be okay despite that until Ragnarok.
[ That's. Kind of a hello. ]
video;
Huginn and Muninn, however, do not move from their perch. Though they seem to be watching the video feed with some interest. Loki speaks up for them.]
They can manage quite well on their own, but I have no doubt the sentiment is appreciated.
[As for gods dying:] If Asgard's existence hung upon the beliefs of mortals, it would have faded from the universe like a dying star, long ago. We can grow old, grow frail, or die in battle if we are so unfortunate.
But of course, we are not the gods from your world. I suppose there lies the difference.
video;
[ They're not quite gods in their own right, back home, but they're close enough. ]
Belief, not worship. Your names written down are enough to give some life. Of course, probably fortunate for you that you aren't from my world -- dying's bad, but some of the myths you guys have are messed up.
[ She is not going to say you had a horse baby, but only because she wants to make friends with the birds. ]
video;
While some hold more truth than others, some myths are just that. Entertainment enough for the mortals of Midgard, but little else.
video;
They're true to my version of you. Think he might have gotten the short end of the stick. [ SHRUG alternate universes, she's been here long enough that she's not fussed. ]
video;
Perhaps. Or he is the more well-known of the two of us. Either way, I cannot say that I envy him terribly.
Do you associate yourself with the gods of your world often?
video;
I didn't used to believe in them, but now I work for one, so it's kind of hard not to. [ As for whether she minds... depends on the day. ] Been a while since we've had any at all here, though.
[ Angels and demons, sure, but not gods. ]
video;
video;
Depends on the god, doesn't it? I doubt you and Odin would look in the same places, much less for the same traits. [ Plus that'd be boring. ] I don't know if Coyote was actively looking at the time, when he found me, but I was in a bar.
video;
Coyote? [A pause.] Like the animal?
video;
[ And then there's Nuada, who is less than fond of anything that is or was human, but that's not really relevant outside of the thought making Jaye wrinkle her nose before continuing. ]
Like the animal. It's his favorite form.
video;
"Form", is it? He does like what that implies, though perhaps it's not as novel when you're talking about a god and not a mortal. She may notice the lilt of interest in his tone.] He's a practiced shapeshifter of sorts, I assume?
video;
He is. And a trickster. The two don't always go together, but it works nicely when they do. [ Coyote was always far more interested in using his words and wiles to get out of things; it's why his minders are a little more headstrong, a little more ready to bare their teeth in his defense. Jaye has betrayed Coyote's wishes for his own good before, and she's very lucky the latest time didn't result in her death -- but if it had, it would have been one she'd have gladly taken. ] Animal forms are his favorite, though he can do multiple humans, if he wants to.
video;
[maybe the fact that they both can apply to him as well]
video;
video;
You said you work for him -- what exactly does that entail?
video;
Whatever he needs me to do, really. The gods in my world live among the mortals -- they're closer to their sources of power then, can influence the world more, even if most people don't know they exist. Coyote's pretty good at blending in [ a bit of pride, there; of course he is ] but some of the others are pretty crap at it. That's why they started picking people to work for them in the first place -- to help them blend in.
video;
I see. But I imagine that role is now moot; unless his influence extends to this ship, even though is presence is lacking?
video;
[ She wishes it did. ]
I have the gift he gave me and that's it. Doesn't erase my job, though.
video;
video;
A split second later, it's a bright blue bird, her namesake, looking at the camera. ]
video;
A shapeshifter as well. Quite impressive.
[The words "for a mortal" might be implied. Maybe.]
video;
Flapping her wings, just once, Jaye is immediately human once again. ]
Just animals. Turning into people was my version of you's thing for his people.
[ "my version of you" yay words ]
video;
"Just" animals. But one must not underestimate the potential of turning into "just" animals. [He has a feeling he's preaching to the choir here, but he continues.] The possibilities are nearly infinite and just as under appreciated.
video;
[ It's enough to make her practically wriggle in glee; someone who gets it. Of course, she had been fairly certain Loki would. ]
Jaye. [ That's an introduction. ]
