[What you are seeing is Topher. Topher looks a little like hell. Someone may or may not have been avoiding dealing with one of his empathy links for SCIENCE (the first one worked out fine- that's how he knows enough to figure this out, but the second one...) ... Also, it's possible he's been occupied running scans and trying to figure out if he's wrong, which... he's still not convinced he's not.]

I've been working.... [He pauses, plants a palm on his forehead, and sucks in a breath.] I've been working on a theory. It's not entirely sound yet, but I was trying to run through every logical possibility before entertaining the notion that it might actually be... that, and... no dice. None. And it was bad enough when it was just memories, but now- now. Oh, it's much worse.

Whatever this is, it's on a synaptic level- whatever one person feels, the other person feels too. Observe. [He picks up something sharp and pricks himself, which makes him hiss in pain.] Now someone out there felt that. That means that we are doing some serious groupthink weirdness without the whole "all of us are Borg" BS- SO FAR. Who knows what it'll be in a few weeks. Or days. And what was the last thing 90% of us experienced that involved groupthink? Anyone?

[YEAH, TOPHER'S HAVING A BAD DAY. HOW ARE YOU?] I think we might be in trouble.

[He rubs his face.] And is anyone who was fully assimilated on Strela even still around? 'Cause that'd be a start to maybe possibly proving me wrong. Or right. But let's err on the side of blind optimism and assume my fancy medical degrees in neurology mean nothing and I'm just talking out of my... bottom area. Whatever.

[Maybe you should deal with your link first, Topher. MAYBE. There's science to do, okay.]

It's effecting everyone right now- assuming that's what it even is, which it's, uh... a pretty good assumption.

Okay, so if that really is what's behind this— do you think there's a way around it?

[she's a bit skeptical but that is mostly because of how this place is mostly. sarah pauses for a moment deciding she should probably introduce herself, if he recognized her name that would at least determine if she was right or not] My name is Sarah Walker, by the way.

[He sucks in a breath] So slightly off-topic, but do you happen to know Chuck? The... nerdy one who left. Not the girl one who dates the piemaker.

Oh— [hearing that at confirms her thoughts considering she recognizes his name. she just nods at his question] Well considering he's my boyfriend, yeah I know him.

[Wow Chuck. Congrats on the girlfriend.]

Niiiice. [COUGH. ANYWAY.] I mean, I'm sorry he left. We talked a few times and I, uh... I think I might have a memory of yours. Of him.

[sarah is pretty much unphased by his reaction but that aside when he confirms that he did get a memory of hers, she is more concerned that it's one that involves chuck especially since it may be something to not only blow her cover as his handler but also reveal that he had the Intersect] Oh— it's okay, he's safer back at home at least. [even if she really misses him a lot, being at home is a lot safer than being on the ship]

You saw a memory of mine with him? Well that explains why you sounded familiar though if we're going to talk about this, I'd prefer to do that in person. [she knew that technically this is something that could be encrypted but she didn't exactly trust the comms much]

Uh. Sure? I'll be here in medbay all day. Just pop by whenever. [He gives her an awkward smile.]

[sarah just ends the feed and about half an hour later she heads over to the medbay to meet with him. it's not long after she does spot him that she heads over to where he is]

[Topher's presently engaged with his laptop, which is scrolling an endless stream of brain data on the latest scans he's done, trying to pinpoint nanite reaction to certain stimulus. He's absorbed enough in his work that he doesn't notice her until she's nearly on top of him and he jumps... and then sucks in a breath.]

I'm gonna have to start making people around here wear bells. [He waves awkwardly.] Hi. I wasn't expecting "whenever" to be... this soon.

Oh— sorry. [she just smiles a bit apologetically given how she took him by surprise] I kind of figured it would be easier to talk about this sooner rather than later.

You mean before we all go space crazy and lose our sense of self, because we have so many people's brains in our brains? [He swivels his chair to face her and leans on his knees, grinning awkwardly. He knows how to put things delicately.]

Yeah, of course that's what it was. [she just shrugs off his rather blunt response because she was more concerned as to what he knew about her]

So what did you see from me exactly?

Some scientists testing that Intersect thing on Chuck and they were gonna test it on you, but he tricked them and fried their brains? [No big deal or anything.]

[sarah's expression turned a bit more serious at the mention of the memory because of all the things he could ended up seeing, of course it would be about related to the Intersect and possibly reveal that she worked for the CIA] Does that mean you know what it is they were testing?

[because seeing it is one thing, but understanding the context of what happened is something else entirely]

Uh. Yeah. [Admittedly, Chuck had told him to keep his knowledge of The Thing a secret from Sarah and Casey and... well, Chuck is no longer here. And that whole memory share thing blows secrecy out of the water.]

Chuck wanted me to look into it before he.... took a nice relaxing vacation to somewhere not on the USS Deathship.

He told you? [well that changes things significantly and it shows in her demeanor but her reaction wasn't directed at topher it was more about chuck.

sarah is definitely not happy about it in the least but at this point she is not even sure why she is surprised that chuck was telling people and naturally it only made her job that much more difficult. she was his handler though and he should have trusted her enough to tell her so the fact he didn't left her pretty offended] How long ago was this?

I'm a neurologist. The only neurologist on this ship. He wanted me to... fix it. Which, incidentally, I didn't get a chance to do. [He rubs his head.] I dunno. A few months ago? Not long before he left.

[sarah just lets out a sigh in response while she's still trying to process all of this along with chuck's reason for going to him in the first place] I know. You mentioned that part already— I just wish he'd at least said something to me.

You didn't tell anyone else then?

I can keep secrets. [Said very forlornly, because really the kind of secrets he keeps are rarely good.] Patient-doctor confidentiality. I think he had a reason for keeping it from you and Casey, but I didn't ask.

[she just looks at him for a moment as if trying to determine where to believe him or not before she just nods. chuck was more trusting of people than she was and while that was what she liked about him, it was also dangerous for a number of reasons.

regardless of that, if topher didn't tell anyone and also managed to avoid telling both her and casey like chuck probably wanted then maybe she didn't have too much to worry about] Not from me he shouldn't have but I can kind of guess what his reasons were.

[she just lets out a sigh] If you didn't tell anyone that's good and it was all I wanted to know.
