[ When she flicks the device on, she's pulling away, like she very obviously set it onto something so she could look slightly down at it. When she pulls away, the camera gives a sight of a woman who looks like she's in her mid-thirties. She's dressed in, well, something close to a black catsuit, and she folds her arms over her chest while she looks at the item. If anything, she looks a touch annoyed, but that's the last of the emotion on her face, and when she speaks, her voice is painfully level. The most important thing to note is that at her hip, there's a flash of metal that could just be a rather sophisticated, cylyndrical weapon. ]

I've done my research, so I don't need the basics. I'm looking for details, or specs, if you have them. I've figured out that whoever took me has to be an idiot for giving me an opportunity to talk over these things, and leave me with my weapons.

[ A quirk of an eyebrow. ]

It's messy.

So, has anyone met them? Has anyone said why, or are they just idiots? If not, then I guess there's at least some mystery to whatever it is I've stepped into this time. I don't suppose it's too much to ask about who's on here, is it? Getting a scope of the field will help out more than anything else.

[Nomi's smile widens into something more amused, but not unkind. Understanding, motherly, but still amused. The date wasn't important, but the reaction was.]

I did. If I may hazard a guess, I'm someone you've heard of in a history lesson? Can I ask how far into the future you are? Or would it be more prudent to ask if you're familiar with the Skywalker family?

[Oh, she knows.]

[ Oh, of all the statements, that gets a reaction. A mixed one, too.

Look, she married into a really weird family, and she knows it. ]

You could say that. You've met a member of them? [ A beat. ] From your time, or...here?

[Looks like she nailed it. Nomi can't help but laugh.

A weird family is right!]

Anakin, Luke, and Leia. All here. They've come from about 4000 years after me.

Ah.

[ Oh. Boy. Oh boy. There's a moment of mixed emotion. Husband! But. Father-in-law. That she didn't get along with. Going by a different name! She isn't sure what to feel at this, so she just narrowed her eyes a touch more. ]

I see. How long have they been here?

[Nomi narrows her eyes right back.]

Anakin before me. The others only recently. Now, who are you? I believe I've given you plenty of information in trade.

I see.

[ Now where was Skywalker, then? That was the question. If he hadn't come running... well, that was concerning enough. She didn't expect him to be incapable of staying out of trouble on his own, but they were stronger together. ]

Call me Mara Jade.

[ She omits the second part of her name. For the moment. No need to draw that question out. ]

Apprentice, Knight, or Master Jade?

[That reaction she mentally files away. On to the formalities then.]

Knight. A recently appointed knight. I assume you're familiar enough with the way things are, master, then?

[ She sounds like a Jedi Master. ]

Grandmaster in my time, actually. Though with the Order as it is, after the war with Exar Kun...

[She trails off, expression distant. So many dead, and so much devastation.]

Bad, I assume?

[ This was starting to sound a little more familiar. She'd heard bits and pieces, sure, but what hit more than anything was the name.

Oh, there were things Mara Jade did know about that name. ]

War never leaves us in a very good state.

Well losing sixty percent of the active Jedi, having several planets rendered completely uninhabitable for the next...at least two thousand years...and three star-clusters completely destroyed by Sith Sorcery hardly counts as good, I'd say.

[Excuse her, she'd only just escaped Ossus when things went kaboom. The not sleeping thing isn't helping.

And if Nomi knew what Mara had the misfortune of discovering about Kun's spirit...oh you could bet that Yavin 4 would look very very different than it does now. Glass wouldn't even begin to describe it.]

[ The only option would be to kill it with fire, honestly.

She gives her something of a grim smile. ]

I'm sure that would be tough to recover from.

[ Or you know, near complete eradication of the order. Good thing she wasn't tasked with rebuilding. ]

[Blowing it up from orbit is generally a valid way to kill things with fire.

Generally.]

We'll manage, I'm sure. Like I'm sure the Order in your time will manage to rebuild too.

[She does know about that. Blame Bail. Blabbing senators...]

[ You know, not knowing what other people know is going to get her in trouble, she can already feel it. ]

I see.

Well, that's not my job.

[ Well, maybe a little bit now. ]

[Nah, not from this one. She's totally nice, Mara. Really.]

No? You don't think so?

[Amusement trickles back in.]

By being a part of it, I'd say you've got a stake in it's success.

A small one.

[ Nobody important here, she's trying to say. Let her get away with that!! ]

We have a long way to go. But that's not really here, is it?

[Oh...but all Jedi are a treasure...]

No, here we've just got to deal with a ship that's seemingly possessed of some malicious intelligence. You'll pardon me if I sound strained. It's actively preventing us from sleeping, and I fear I haven't had a good night's rest in nearly a week.

[She guesses it's the ship, anyway. Seems the most likely culprit.]

Not to be the bearer of bad news or anything. This place...well...there are worse places to be I suppose, but it's definitely malevolent.

[Y'know, like Korriban or Dromund Kaas or something. It's like that.]

Yes, I noticed there was something off. [ She grimaced at the camera. ] Thought it was old instincts kicking in.

So it's this thing that's malevolent? It's nobody else, just the ship?

[ It doesn't sound as impossible as it would seem, especially to her. There had been the thing with the Eye of Palpatine, after all.

She wasn't going to think aobut that. ]

That's the only explanation I've got. Can't you feel it? This place...it's steeped in the Dark Side. The corridors supposedly change, and the majority of it is dark.

[She's not really sure where to begin with Smiley, really.]

It's not really safe to go wandering around alone, Jedi or no.

Mm.

[ She paused. She hadn't focused on it. Not really.

She could feel something, but she hadn't let it deter her from her research, and she hadn't focused on it. Now, she does, for just a moment, open herself to the force, hesitantly.

She doesn't rely on it, and after a moment, the small spot in perception for any Jedi is gone. Not muted, or muffled, or invisible, but not actively touching the power there. ]

It's certainly...something.

I've heard talk that the ship is haunted, if you believe in that sort of thing. I don't know. I have yet to encounter any Dark Side spirits, or the beings I'd personally associate with such tales.

[Ghosts aren't real, but the Dark Side's will does occasionally bubble up into nasty specters. Nomi's seen that firsthand, over and over.]

But who can say? We are in another galaxy, that is certain.

It could be any number of things.

I'll admit that a ship like this isn't exactly out of my range of knowledge. There's likely a logical explanation somewhere.

Probably so. For the moment, this is the best we've got. Could be faulty programming, but with the presence here? [She shrugs]

I don't know. I wish I did. But if you've been in a situation like this before, then what do you think it could be?

[ A noticeable pause, while she considers how to word it. There's no malice in her voice, no disgust. Callista had done what she thought was best. Mara considered it more Skywalker who ruined that, then Callista Ming. Still, it was her husband's ex. ]

There was a ship. With an entity on it. Trapped in the ship's computers. A Jedi had given her life to stop it, and was stuck there. Eventually, she got out, but it was... [ Conflict colors her face. ] It was a force to be reckoned with.

[That...is a rather strange tale. ~~And somewhat indicative of the EU's weirdness meter being wayyyy off~~. Nomi can't help but ask the obvious question.]

How did she get out? And what was the ship meant to do?
