That sounds fair--I could at least usefully contribute until I've learned enough to be helpful in communications.

[It's not... quite a promise of eventual commitment to that, but certainly made in the tone of an offer?]

[ Nathan catches on that there's been a little miscommunication there, and he's quick to backtrack. ]

Oh no, I mean. It's nice of you to offer, but I don't mind which department you wanna work in, just that you try and contribute. If you're good with a sword, you're more use cutting your way through the bad guys and leaving the computer stuff to the people who do that best.

Some people do plenty without ever joining up. We've got people who cook, people who teach, you know? Contributing back is all that matters. Like...a trade.

[Internally, Tavi smiles.]

Believe me, I know how to leave specialized jobs to the specialists. But enough of this is new to me that for most things around here I'd need to learn in order to help. And I'd like to.

[A trade. The multiple meanings of the word only increase his internal amusement.] Which is no different from any other community, really.

Not at all, though some communities, you know, people give less back than they do elsewhere. Depends on the ethics of the people, what they really care about, how they get motivated.

Come by, I'll show you how the comms work and answer any of your questions, and you can go on from there. Sound alright?
