[ Peter's not exactly thrilled to be appearing on film, like handing over his location to the FBI with bells on, and he's not out to try too hard to pretend that he is. But he's taken part in his fair share of interrogations (on both sides) and he can seat himself in front of a camera and look serious.... and entirely well-intentioned, hopefully. ]
I don't do bored. I've never actually done bored very well, but before all of you jump on me and say I should give it a week and there'll be something for me to do- [ he holds up a hand; talk to it. ] I'll save you the time. I believe you.
Absolute chaos and destruction - combined with space's every attempt at a science experiment - should definitely give people something to do. [ Peter talks almost entirely with his hands, gesturing unconsciously all about. ] Not sure i'd expect anything less, but hey, not judging anyone if they choose to keep out of the fray, either. But the rest of the time, in-between one horror movie plot and the next, i'm not capable of sitting around and acting like this is the next best thing to a vacation without the benefits of getting to relax. Even though I can find my fair share of things to do, they won't be accomplishing anything. And at the end of the day there's only so many card tricks I can practice.
[ yes, okay, he's getting on with it. ]
I know there's departments, and I know what most of them are for. [ ... he pauses for a second and then shakes his head. ] Okay, I probably don't know everything they do, and I want to change that. I want to know more. Not sure I know much about farming, i'll just fess up to that now, but what I really want to know, is which departments need the most help. What you're looking for, what I can do to make things easier. Holding down a job isn't exactly a specialty of mine either, but I still want to get involved as much as I just... [ tensing for a moment, he finally sighs. ] -I like a good challenge.
You want to know what I can do? Sure, fine. But i'm only showing you mine if you show me yours.

...Never say interdepartmental cooperation again. I'm getting hives from the bureaucracy of it. Look, I'll be honest there. The "departments" are more of "guidelines" and being able to get into certain areas you wouldn't be able to normally.
I take adventures into the science labs too. It's— seriously not a big deal.

So I won't get taken down a peg if I step out of the figurative line. Good to know. Just didn't exactly want to upset the masses before I even got going around here. Not that I exactly care about stepping on toes, but there's just not enough places to run when you're locked on a spaceship.
Moving on- what exactly do you have available to you. In engineering. More than the obvious, at least. [ does he get to tinker with shit. please tell him he gets to. he will be your bff. ]
text.
Fry will bitch at you, I won't. So. Really. I have a sneaking suspicion that there's going to be an OPR on your arm next jump and I'll get to be the one who says you're with me. And I'll just let you roam free in other places. ...And you'd be surprised.
The entirety of engineering including the scrap pile. Mechanical heaven.
[ so, yes. don't even dare point out that he causally didn't mention the jump drive. just. read the context there peter. ]
text.
And i'll let you keep your sneaking suspicion because as long as i've got the advantage of roaming, then maybe a few other people'll thank you for consideration on the matter. Or maybe they'll just kick me out.
Guess we'll just have to see how that one goes. I know for a fact MIT's still regretting that particular decision. [ No, they're really not, Peter. Especially since you never went there. ]
But on to the important part: the beloved scrap pile. Not sure i'd get to hear those words again anytime soon. People just don't understand everything you can do with their old junk. We allowed to make use of anything else we come across? Because i'm guessing people don't just hand over things we might find.. useful.

Graduation year? How's the old alma mater doing, blah blah, still feel bad about missing a commencement speech I was supposed to go to. [ Peter, don't say that to the guy who graduated from it. ]
It's what was left behind by the previous owners around here. If you can find me someone who willingly gives up their random metal they might have laying around, then by all means, add it to it.
text.
[ LOOK, it's not his fault he wanted to be a college professor for awhile. he just... never finished college and MIT looked good on paper, shut up. maybe he just really wanted to pretend to go there for as long as he should've. But fine, he'll be good. ] Probably would've been '98. '97 if I really wanted to knock their socks off. Wouldn't worry about the commencement speech though.
Sounds like a good enough deal to me. Our very own scrapyard's about the best I could've hoped for.

[ LBR HERE. Tony graduated summa cum laude and they don't do that, he can't really judge— and yet. ] Would have. Drop out? Or— I'm not letting you anywhere near anything if you flunked out. That's just embarrassing. And Pepper had been bitching about it at the time. Something about how they were bitching at her about it. I kind of didn't listen. Stopped worrying about it years ago.
Wait until you see the place. It's a engineer's wet dream.
text.
Well then I guess i'll be a happy man.
text.
You might even look like this: :D
text.
Well, hey. Turning into an emoticon's always been a lifelong dream.
text.
...You're definitely going to be a good addition.
text.
Glad I passed the test.
text.
Considering how hard it is, you should be.
text.
Especially when I didn't even know I was taking it in the first place.
text.
Like keeping you on your toes.
text.
And believe me, I was already in the middle of being kept on my toes before I showed up here. This is just icing on the cake.
text.
I'd say I'm glad to not give you a break from it, but I don't actually care all that much so.
text.
I wouldn't expect you to.
text.
[ tony not everyone is you. ]

I only bitch at them when they do something stupid.
