[ irene's not sitting in her room, she's sitting in someone else's. namely, the room that once belonged to her version of sherlock holmes. on her index finger are three gold rings that she fidgets idly with while she speaks. ]

I see our very own cautionary tale has graced us with an echo. For those newly arrived, I'd say pay attention to that, and note what happens if you don't get yourself into a pod before the jump time. It leaves in quite a mess, or so I'm told.

[ there's a clink of rings as she shakes them off, letting them fall onto the side table, edging them lightly into place with her fingertips. ]

Now, having that settled, I suppose I'd ask an introduction on the part of those newly arrived. All those newly arrived. In all the chaos of your arrival, it's only polite that we all introduce ourselves. We are to be living in rather close quarters for the foreseeable future, are we not?

[ there's a beat, and then. ]

Do you ever miss his presence?

[ and there's really only the one him, because who else would irene be asking about if not sherlock? ]

[adlered]

[ there's a longer pause, because— hadn't she gone through three. a death, and two leaving which threw things off track in ways she doesn't speak of. she isn't attached ( not like normal people, he was exciting and a male equal for all his people problems ) and yet sometimes she feels as if she might have been with the ways she answers. ]

You shouldn't ask such questions over these feeds, darling.

[ which is to say, yes, but i'd rather not say where everyone can see. ]

Do you?

[jilt]

Perhaps not. My apologies, I'm feeling reckless today.

[ the lack of answer is answer in and of itself. there's really only one answer either of them could give to that question. in response irene leans back, fingers resting on those rings as she gestures to the room in which she sits. ]

My choice in office is no accident.

[adlered]

You're forgiven. Given the circumstances.

[ not there are any circumstances that anyone else is aware of but the irenes always do talk on another wavelength compared to everyone else, hidden away behind words that don't mean what they should. ]

And here I thought it was. I'm not entirely sure I can choose between my options for relocation. Temporary as it'd be.

[jilt]

When it comes to this particular subject the circumstances usually demand a little leniency.

[ the irenes talk without words. the conversation takes place in the silences, between the lines. ]

It's impossible to show favor. I can't imagine how to attempt it.

[adlered]

Not too much, however. Everyone knows what leniency can do when there's an abundance of it.

[ between the lines and in subtle shifts. it's easy to understand if you're them. ]

One might be off limits to even me. But others, I could leave a crop in one and sit in the other. Leave my personal touch so to speak.

[jilt]

And you better than most, yes?

You needn't even be so material in your presence. He always did know when we'd come to call, even without our calling cards left.

[adlered]

The pleasures of my work and being the woman that I am.

A sixth sense when it comes to us would be the best descriptor. The lowest one presents the most challenge, why I might even feel as if he made it that way just for my enjoyment.

[jilt]

I always did wonder if it were the same for all of them, though I'd never asked. A missed opportunity, among all the others.

[adlered]

When you look at the pair of us, can you really assume anything different?

[jilt]

They had a habit of surprising us, darling.

[adlered]

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, the same could be said for us.

[jilt]

I believe we did it with much more flare than they ever managed. Though yours was hardly as unkempt as mine.

[adlered]

You didn't see him drugged. Trust me, when I remember that moment, I can tell you their differences evaporated away.

[jilt]

Then I suppose I shall have to forever mourn the missed opportunity.

[adlered]

I'll regale the story to you in person soon enough. It loses a bit of its effect, but one must make compromises sometimes.

[jilt]

Then I'll simply have to leave my door open for you in invitation.

[adlered]

And I'll be sure to come at the nearest convenience. In the mean time, I do suppose I should let you spread your charm among the masses without my commentary. I do want to hear all about it later though.
