[ irene's not sitting in her room, she's sitting in someone else's. namely, the room that once belonged to her version of sherlock holmes. on her index finger are three gold rings that she fidgets idly with while she speaks. ]

I see our very own cautionary tale has graced us with an echo. For those newly arrived, I'd say pay attention to that, and note what happens if you don't get yourself into a pod before the jump time. It leaves in quite a mess, or so I'm told.

[ there's a clink of rings as she shakes them off, letting them fall onto the side table, edging them lightly into place with her fingertips. ]

Now, having that settled, I suppose I'd ask an introduction on the part of those newly arrived. All those newly arrived. In all the chaos of your arrival, it's only polite that we all introduce ourselves. We are to be living in rather close quarters for the foreseeable future, are we not?

[She decides to fish for the video button then, showing herself in front of the camera. She looks like she's satisfied with something, most likely the idea that this Irene was busted somehow. She continues without delay, tone accusatory:]

You seem to appreciate the theme of doubles. Or are you simply unoriginal?

[ it's not quite right. irene takes a moment to study her, take in the overall picture and decide whether or not she finds it wanting. it's unsettling, seeing your face look back at you with all the important details skewed in a decidedly wrong fashion. however. ]

I've simply been here for long enough to find it commonplace.

[ there's a pause, a clink of rings before irene looks back at her. ]

I'm not overly fond of what you've done with our hair.

Really? [REALLY.] That's what you've got to say for yourself?

Given that I've been here longer and most likely been in possession of this face longer, I think that's exactly what I'll say to all of this.

[ THE BANGS ARE TACKY FIGHT HER ]

You've been 'in possession' [the air quotes are quite visible] of that face? My face. Is identity-theft something you take pride in, considering you've managed to take mine and someone else's in one go?

It's not yours, as I've never had another.

I'm not sure why you'd think I'd want your identity in the first place, I've always been more than happy with my own.

You tell me. I haven't met quite enough shape-shifters to know what exactly draws them to a particular look.

My dear, you seem to be laboring under the assumption that I'm some sort of...creature. I assure you, I'm not.

Creature? Oh, no, I assure you, I think they're just as human as everybody else. It's what they do that lowers my judgment.

I'm afraid I do very little to deserve such censure. Though if you're determined to persist, we'll simply have to come to some understanding.

And what kind of understanding would that be?

The understanding that there's nothing at all I can do about my face, as I've never had another.

Right. So I just happened to find someone who shares my features and so just happens to share her name with somebody else. You see why things don't quite add up.

Those are just the facts, dearie. I was as skeptical as you, when I'd first encountered them.

What do you suggest we do? I've no other face, and you seem as attached to yours as I am to mine.

There's obviously nothing I can do, unless you come up with a better idea.
