I see our very own cautionary tale has graced us with an echo. For those newly arrived, I'd say pay attention to that, and note what happens if you don't get yourself into a pod before the jump time. It leaves in quite a mess, or so I'm told.

[ there's a clink of rings as she shakes them off, letting them fall onto the side table, edging them lightly into place with her fingertips. ]

Now, having that settled, I suppose I'd ask an introduction on the part of those newly arrived. All those newly arrived. In all the chaos of your arrival, it's only polite that we all introduce ourselves. We are to be living in rather close quarters for the foreseeable future, are we not?

Just what might a Jedi be, if the question isn't too intrusive?

Not at all. Some might call us peacekeepers, others would call us guardians, and still others...[She finds it hard to keep a rueful touch out of her voice] wizards and mystics with strange philosophies and curious traditions.

And are all those accurate terms, or are they far off in their view?

That depends on your perspective, now doesn't it? People often find other cultures and philosophies odd when they aren't part of the group that gave rise to them, after all.

For example I personally see them as quite normal and find the term 'wizard' to be a little bit off, but you might not.

I find this entire situation odd. The mechanics of Jedi are hardly the strangest thing I've seen up here.

Do you have a small droid following you around as well?

Droid? No, I do not. He...did not arrive with me.

But you have one? Do all Jedi have such companions?

[ridesthesun]

I do. But most families have a droid where I'm from.

It seemed strange to me. Are they like a servant, a butler or maid?

Actually, that's what ARDEE is built for, to be a butler.

[Nomi laughs ruefully]

I'm a pretty awful cook. He takes care of that for me.

And without any demands on his part, I imagine.

Oh, he's demanding alright. And as much a part of the family as my daughter or my husband. Droids need maintenance too, and they have their own personalities.

You've a husband and daughter?

Had a husband, and my daughter is currently apprenticed, but yes. I do. Andur and Vima.

No, we've no droids at all, nor do we have much of what you can find aboard this ship. I've been told I come from the past in most cases.

No droids? Stars, I couldn't imagine a time without them. Though, it's fair to say that my own world is far ahead of most of the people I've met here so far with regards to technology.

But I somehow doubt your world is mine's past.

No, perhaps not. It seems like not everyone's worlds align so neatly.

No, I thought not. Are you from...Earth?

Yes, from Earth. Though that doesn't necessarily align me so neatly with everyone else either.
