I see our very own cautionary tale has graced us with an echo. For those newly arrived, I'd say pay attention to that, and note what happens if you don't get yourself into a pod before the jump time. It leaves in quite a mess, or so I'm told.

[ there's a clink of rings as she shakes them off, letting them fall onto the side table, edging them lightly into place with her fingertips. ]

Now, having that settled, I suppose I'd ask an introduction on the part of those newly arrived. All those newly arrived. In all the chaos of your arrival, it's only polite that we all introduce ourselves. We are to be living in rather close quarters for the foreseeable future, are we not?

[ Pieces of it were vague enough that it hardly mattered in the first place -- her father a pushover, her mother the one with greater expectations than she could have ever first believed. But that's tucked away somewhere else right now, somewhere so deeply private that giving up the fact that she'd taken piano as a child isn't even worth sneezing at.

But now it's been handed over to her, and her smile grows just enough. This isn't as much as a game for her, but aspects of this are exactly what kept her on top for so long. ]

If I said you like games- puzzles, it would hardly seem as if i'd even been listening. But you do, otherwise you'd take an answer and be done with it. Perhaps you're looking for something more, or perhaps it's merely entertainment. Either way, I doubt you enjoy being proven wrong once you've started. And somehow, chess is no longer enough.

And though I wouldn't peg you as a man of opera, you're undoubtedly refined and it hasn't been forced upon you. You enjoy it and have no intention of changing to appease the oddities of our surroundings.

[ Hannibal has never liked being analysed, but in this instance he did set himself up for it, and it would be impossibly rude not to allow her to look at him just as piercingly. Besides, it gives him an idea as to the limits of her own perception, and she's good, at least for the first few sentences, then she loses it a little. Hannibal doesn't succumb to pride the same way other people do. He isn't hurt by being wrong, it washes over him and he learns from it. Chess is still enjoyable, and he does indeed like the opera.

She's right that he's refined, and that at least is a choice he's made. All in all, it isn't bad, though he had no intention of marking her score out of ten. ]

One cannot help having a sense of aesthetics, just as you wouldn't step outside with as much as a single hair out of place.

[ Not everything she said she would've stood behind, that much is true. Some lines - like chess - were just added as fluff; entirely unnecessary and likely wrong. She's not meant to be spectacularly good at this, not openly, and this man has yet to provide reasons for her to be at her best. If a proposition were in the making, perhaps, or if she was avidly trying to prove herself in a different scenario, her words would've been different.

Add on to the fact that this isn't encrypted. She isn't always trying to act as if she has something to hide. ]

You'd be surprised at how difficult it is to find a brush, of all things, here. [ Hair can be out of place when it needs to be. When it's necessary. ]

Do you have any suggestions for a newcomer such as myself. Places of interest, perhaps? Or is the ship exactly as it seems, every hallway the same as the last?

I've yet to hear a single person say something unpleasant about the gardens.

Gardens, on a ship? A splendid idea, though I wouldn't know the first part of how to find them. Are there many varieties there? Plants I would recognise?

It's far more of a singular entity and though the garden is large, it's immensely diverse. You could take it as a whole or in it's many parts-- it's not what you'd imagine most gardens to be. Even so, there's vegetables that're being grown somewhere in the midst of it all. You might be familiar with some of those.

Difficult to imagine something so vast as you describe. Vegetables, though--perhaps when I'm grown accustomed to them, you might allow me to cook for you.

If there's enough down there to cook with, you'd be more than welcome to. Agriculture deals exclusively with what's growing there.
