I see our very own cautionary tale has graced us with an echo. For those newly arrived, I'd say pay attention to that, and note what happens if you don't get yourself into a pod before the jump time. It leaves in quite a mess, or so I'm told.

[ there's a clink of rings as she shakes them off, letting them fall onto the side table, edging them lightly into place with her fingertips. ]

Now, having that settled, I suppose I'd ask an introduction on the part of those newly arrived. All those newly arrived. In all the chaos of your arrival, it's only polite that we all introduce ourselves. We are to be living in rather close quarters for the foreseeable future, are we not?

Yes and no. For the most part, i've gotten the opposite response.

People clamoring to hide what you've missed? Now that's unforgivable, I hope you told them so.

It's not like I still don't have the same room. Don't know if I should hope for it being able to answer whatever it was I missed, or not.

If they're hiding it, there's a reason. That would merit a second look, were it me.

I mean- they're not hiding it, I know where it is. I've still got the same number. But believe me, i'll be going through the place soon enough. There's gotta be at least something in there. [ this is peter's pretending to sound hopeful voice. ]

And what will you do if you don't like what you find?

Deal with it? Not sure what else there is to do.

I don't imagine there's an alternative, no. Not when this place doesn't provide you with an exit.

Even if there was an exit, i'd still want to know. [ little brother thing -- now he has to look. ] There's a reason for it, and Nathan seems to forget that i've already seen the future.

How does one see the future, if you don't mind my asking?

[askedtobe]

That one's... kind of complicated. It's not really seeing. In a literal sense, I mean. It's in dreams, or paintings-- always manifests itself in some way or another. And just because you've seen it, doesn't mean you can't keep it from happening.

I imagine it would be a difficult business, interpreting the future. Most have a hard enough time making sense of the present.

[askedtobe]

Causes more problems than it should, honestly. My mom seems to think you have to make sure whatever she sees comes to fruition, but I don't know- maybe that's just her.

Your mother had a similar talent?

[askedtobe]

She still does, as far as I know.

[jilt]

Did you inherit it from her, or was it a gift given to you both?

[askedtobe]

Inherited, I think. Seems like it, since my brother can do it too.

[ er. ] He's not a precog, though. Nathan can fly, i'm an empath-- we've all got abilities, they just manifested differently. [ yeah peter, keep talking like this is all incredibly obvious. ]

Just runs in the family, apparently.

Nathan's never let on. I can't imagine why not, when such talents seem to hold such value here.

He doesn't exactly think it's much of a talent.
