[...there's a second of white noise, because-- well, this is weird. It's like online chatrooms, which Mitchell has never been keen on, to say the least. If people are going t' go through those tubes and get onto that other ship, do their phones keep on working? These devices, I mean. Do they go that far? If they do, and if this can be heard over there, I'm making a request. Space pirates had to have cigarettes on them, yeah, and I'm in need of cigarettes. Sanctioned looting can include a bit of personal stuff, yeah-- and it's sort of a, a desperate need. Please and thanks in advance.

[Like very desperate. Like the more he talks about it, the more strained his voice goes. Vampires with nicotine addictions, it's a hard life. A pause, then, he might finish there--but instead he sucks in a breath. Right. Normal.]

Actually, there's a lot of questions on how things work around here, and not all of it is out of our control. Like--so there's a cast of, what, a hundred plus of us, and we have t' trade for things that we need, if someone else has got them. But if you don't have anything t' trade, is it just-- begging for it? Hoping for a bit of Christian charity? Every man for himself? Not that I'd be much surprised by that one, given the... [Maybe it's better not to finish that one, in light of recent events, but given his low faith in humanity, and given his own recent exploints, none this is really all that surprising. So, wry once more:] ...given the situation.

[An awkward pause.]

I dated a guy once who was... weirdly into cartoon foxes and it really-- creeped me out a little, to be judgemental but honest. Trust me, these were entirely family friendly.

Cartoon foxes. And how did it take you to break it off after you'd found that out.

The next sentence out of my mouth was "we need to talk". Weird garden variety issues-- those I put up with for much longer, but that was a step too far.

[He actually laughs at that.]

And thank God you had the sense t' get out before the fuzzy ears and tails came into the picture. Some girls would've gone along with it till then--or even after.

I'm a sap, I've admitted this to myself-- but even I have limits.

I think here you could just say you've got a sense of self-preservation, and leave it at that. Cartoon foxes. What's the worst that this ship could do t' you after you survived that.

Ah, that's not so bad, yeah? There's a strong precedence of sexy rabbit ears--more than fox ears. And if it's hordes of rabbits you're worried about, I'd say that's easily dealt with, though... the solution is foxes, which, maybe you've got a bit too much PTSD for that to be a real solution.

We could bring in snakes, instead. I have a traumatizing story about a class pet that absolutely backs up the rabbit killing potential of snakes.

That sounds... like a good start, yeah. How traumatising are we talking here, was it your classroom, or were you in the class?

The second one. I was also a preteen-- it was a dark moment in my young life.

Not countin' the fact that pre-teen is more of a dark series of moments for just about everyone--I think I can guess at the rest of your story. You win this one. Horrors untold, it's a wonder you've made it as far as you have, we will definitely definitely hire on some snakes for this one.
