video; chapter I: an unexpected greeting
Bilbo Baggins, at your service!
[ That squeak surely must have scratched at your ear, friend! Maybe you've heard it once or twice before ( it's a habit ). Well, it turns out to be sourced to one particular hobbit, the very same Bilbo Baggins peering through the screen. Peering into forever? No, he is looking for his audience, but his words carry on and float. They spin and meet into one smoky ring, puffed through a pipe tangled in his fingers. There is a visible calm patting into the wrinkles of his face, perhaps from earlier stress.
Still, the chirp in his voice smooths out his expression into something friendly. In fact, he is sharing a cheeky smile to his no-face audience, hoping for the same kindness. ]
I am in need of help finding my company. [ He clears his throat, stuck between a tone that is business-like and relaxed. He shouldn't be too relaxed, of course not! ] Dwarves, thirteen in count, but I will gladly send my thanks and offerings to any that may be found. There are two others accounted for, but calling anyone else familiar would most definitely put my concerns and my inner trembling to rest.
[
Yes, the broadcast carries on without any movement, but a few hints of sound. Perhaps someday he will have a proper understanding of the 'on' and 'off' options. Perhaps. ]

voice;
My name is Remus Lupin. Do you have any questions you'd like answered?
video;
]
Wha—
[ Oh. He's back on screen now. ]
Apologies. Err, it's a pleasure! [ Now isn't the time to get all fumbly, but that was a little embarrassing. The hobbit tries for his best smiles, nodding. ] Yes, actually, but... but I suppose this is a ship, isn't it?

u have the most passionate icons
True, but I'm a bit troubled whether I would want them here or not.
always and forever yes
voice;
Now if only my dwarf would show up. [She sounds vaguely disappointed.]
video;
[ Not even a moment of hesitation there, no time for being shy about it. ]
But Sigrun, I... don't believe so? [ He squints at the familiarity of it. Might be a name and face he just met, actually! ]
Oh, your dwarf?
video;
[Dramatic sigh.] Not that I don't appreciate Sigrun, mind you. Bit of a death wish, but a fine drinking companion, anyway. She's quite the fire brand.
video;
Well, don't think we'd actually wish for the others to be here...yes?
[Except perhaps Thorin.]
video;
Of course! [ A startled look, no, no, no! Not like that, Fili! ]
It would be nice hearing from them. 'We are perfectly fine, Mr. Baggins.'
permavideo;
[A little joke there. Trying to keep things light. But--]
I think things turn out all right for most of them, in the end.
[At least, he hopes.]
no subject
Well, that's all good to hear. Best keep our spirits up.

But...exactly what point in his adventures does Bilbo come from? Has he met Thranduil already? Does he know he is friendly? Most importantly of all, does he have the Ring?
Because two of them would just be wrong. And he has to find out.]
Only two, Friend Baggins, unfortunately for your inner trembling.
[Hopefully that won't scare him too much?]
[video]
Thranduil's question basically answers itself. There's a sudden stiffness to the hobbit, clearing his throat as he carefully chooses his next words: ]
I see.
[ 'I see? That's quite silly.' Not too much to go off that. ] So... you know of me, then? [
His expression soothes, the term 'Friend' settling in his funny head. Friend? That is especially kind. ]
[video]
How could I forget a guest of my halls?
[The look he gives Bilbo is amicable with a razor-sharp edge. Maybe Bilbo will come from a time when he remembers that particular stint of his journey. If not, it'll just seem eerily foreboding.]
[video]
Although the case isn't the same for the king, he suspects even the ring would be not enough to go away without some tracings. Not with 'this' on, definitely not! Perhaps he can return with apologies, food and all that he has taken without asking. He is just one humble Hobbit, that does not go without some form of return later ( which turns out to be a 'gift,' much, much later in our tale ).
But the Hobbit is startled, not to lie through teeth, but deal with the facts as they are said and done. ]
[ A hesitant pause. ]
And without a peep, I have hoped!
[video]
Not a peep, o burglar. I would not have known it, had you not told me yourself. 'Tis a rare talent indeed which can pass into my halls unseen and remain for days.
[The twinkle is hardening.]
Do you believe you still possess such a talent here?
[video]
[ He cannot help but feel for his pocket. It's finally there, after all his first troubles. Safely there.
Just another of his pocketings. ]
But I believe I do, yes.
[video]
[video]
[ And the hobbit—ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, just no, what are you even saying? ]

[ Ahem. ]
He is my [ AHEM. ] nephew.

[ Small smile. ]
Charles.
video.
[ Don't want to be offensive. ]
Dwarvish. And it is a pleasure, Charles.
video.
[ Heh heh. he chuckles. ]
Only thing they can be.
video.
[ Hm. Let's see. ]
Taller than me, that's for sure. [ A pause. ] They have a brightness to their eyes, very determined folk. Long... beards...
video.
A shame I've not met some here, I'll keep my eyes and ears open, though. You'll be the first to know.
video.
[ Something of a relief in his voice. The kindness of others is always good to hear! ]
video.

[video]
Yes, he is, one of two.

[ the commander shouldn't mind! he does this kind of thing for people all the time. ]

[ A small, so small of a beating on his attitude. He tries not to dwell in the thought. ]
Although this seems to be the sort of place not meant for searches. [ A beat. ] The sort of places that loses a person easily, I'm hearing.
