[ Greg's been on board for four weeks now, and he's seriously homesick. Fortunately for everyone else, he's decided to do something about it (in addition to moping, which already is doing something, thank you very much). ]

I need some statistics. Well-- Raw numbers would be good, too, actually, or anecdotal evidence, or anything you want to tell me. Okay.

Does anyone know-- What's the probability you'll disappear any given jump? Does the probability change if you've been here for longer, or for people who got here on certain jumps? Even if no one's calculated the probability, does anyone have records of everyone who's ever been on the ship? The headcount only lists the most recent jump, and having those lists would help us figure out the statistics and look for patterns. [ Not that there is an "us" right now, but there could be, in the future. Maybe. ]

Um, and third? Fourth? Whatever this is-- How many of you are here with someone else from your... world, I guess is the best word for it? And does anyone have statistics for that? [ He sighs. He's not excited at the prospect of all this number-crunching, but at least it's something he can do to keep himself occupied, and it might give him a more realistic view of how likely he is to disappear, presumably going home, or at least see a familiar face anytime soon. ]

Anyway, come talk to me if you have information or if you want to help or anything. There could be a lot of data to deal with, and. Well. [ This is the face of a teenager who really wants help and really doesn't want to ask for it. ] Help would be really great? Um. I'll be hanging out in the 14th floor in one of the common areas, near the lifts, so. Yeah.

Now's fine, or you can start first thing tomorrow. I assume you've already got your afternoon planned, but if you want to start with a quick tour, we can do that whenever you're ready.

[ Nathan signs off. He'll open the door to the comms department moments later. Immediately, what he'll see is a crisp walkway encircling a large room, a railing separating it off from below, and steps leading down to the main department.

There's a vast electronic screen showing an activity map on one side of the walkway, consoles available separate from the Comms network for newcomers to use, and down below all that can be seen are chairs and tables, the hint of some kind of activity going on behind temporary looking scrap partitions.
]

Welcome to Comms.

Not me personally. Spock was the one who got this place running initially, then people like Uhura were responsible for running Comms. Everyone who's been here has put their mark on it since.

[ Nathan is all business. The suit probably gives it away. He indicates the walkway to the left. ]

Let me show you the map, and the pods downstairs, then I'll show you where you'll be working while you're being assessed.

Nathan is fine. I don't have to be pals with you, but it's easier that way. Mr. Petrelli if you really want, but you'll find we're more like a family around here--not just in this department, but the whole ship.

[ More security reasons really. He needs to make sure he's not just here to blind their server and run off with everything they've built so far. He leads the way. ]

Every dot on here is an active device. When they're turned off, they go dark, but you see they're still there in their last known coordinates. If they stay off permanently, that gets logged and the blip goes offline. Gives us a vague idea of who's here and who's not, but it's not the fastest or surest way, no good in an emergency.

This is as close as we've narrowed things down so far. [ His hand touches the screen and he pulls one of the dots across to one of the adjoining consoles. It brings up a closer map, as well as a grid reference, and Nathan shows it from the side, and from above, using his hand to change the direction. ] One or two decks out, that's where they are, about fifty feet in any one direction. We started off six decks out, so this is an improvement. Try it.
