[ Quin's video broadcast comes from the deepest, darkest depths of the jungle levels of the Oxygen Garden, somewhere in the damp, lush lee of a tree so thickly overgrown with intertwining ropes of vines that it's a wonder it's still standing at all. The comms device itself is settled firmly in to a particularly dense clump of verdant greenery and angled just wide enough to capture Quin, cross-legged and grim-faced, and a sharp speck of a crystal sitting on the loam just in front of him.

He's been here for hours - maybe thirty or so, all of them long and hard-spent. Thinking, meditating, fasting, slipping in to the occasional dream - strange and foreign and full of memories that are definitely not his own. Now, awake and with a clear mind, Quin knows that it is finally time to send out this particular message. He picks the crystal up in one battered, bandaged hand and holds it aloft between his finger and thumb so it can catch a single fragile beam of artificial light that has somehow managed to work its way through the canopy above. ]

This belonged to the golem, Shale. A creature of stone but no less full of light. Her body still lies in the depths of this ship but I know that her comrades still remain with us on board. I've seen your faces in her memories, but I don't know your names.

[ His fingers curl around the nature crystal thoughtfully and he draws it closer to his chest as he explains, ]

I need this crystal. It was no accident that I came across it when I did. But I want your blessings, all of you who came from her world. Those who fought with her, those who knew her. [ A pause. ] Talk to me here, or find me in the oxygen gardens. I will help her memory live on if you will all allow it.

It's more than it is. To wield a lightsaber in combat is to strike with the Force - to carry one in your hand is to carry with you your duty to peace, to justice. A reminder of what we serve. Each lightsaber is unique to the hand that made it, and the crystal represents a great part of that.

What is the Force?

The Force is a different thing to different minds. For Jedi it is the binding power that runs throughout the universe - the essence of life, the fabric of emotion. It runs through us all, but only a few can harness it.

Can you feel it if you're psi-null?

[ the unfamiliar name leaves Quinlan pausing, before: ]

I'd tell you, if I knew what psi-null was.

It means the lack of psychic ability. It's what I tested as.

Maybe. Being Force-Sensitive has nothing to do with possessing psychic ability. My species have the power of psychometry, a talent that has no bearing on their potential to sense the Force.

Can I ask what species you are?

Kiffar. [ You won't have heard of us. We're not very mainstream /hipster glasses ] A near-human race from the planets Kiffu and Kiffex in the Azurbani sector of the Inner Rim. You're human, aren't you?

Human. From Earth.

[ wow hipster aliens. ]

I've never heard of Kiffar.

And I'd never heard of Earth until my arrival. [ there's a pause as Quinlan quirks a smile from his end of the feed. ] It's strange - the humans of my galaxy originate from a planet named Coruscant. Two genetically matching races from different points of origin.

I hadn't realized we'd pushed so far out. Or maybe that's past my time.

Maybe. It's complex. There are humans from Earth on board who know of the Jedi as legends -- who say we are from their past.

[ A 'long, long time ago', to quote the girl. ]

There are people on board who know of my captain and our crew. We think it's an alternate reality, a parallel timeline.

[ or that is what sulu chooses to believe so his head doesn't explode. ]

[ Huh. ]

Wonder if it's the same people.

The same people who know of us?

Yeah. The ones who seem to recognize everybody.

Maybe. I think some of them are.

[ He pauses thoughtfully for a moment, then finally asks: ]
