iii ♚ video

[ Stannis turns on the feed, seated in his quarters with a goshawk, and looking rather… unimpressed. Of course, this is hardly a change. And of course, when he speaks, his voice is firm and commanding. ]

Though I mislike these devices, I see little other manner in which mine inquiry may be answered.

[ He sets his jaw, moving his teeth from side to side. ]

They say that this is a vessel that moves through… space [ as preposterous as it sounded… there was hardly any denying such ]. This begs the question as to how one would conduct a battle aboard such a vessel. It would not function as a typical vessel, moving instead in four distinct directions, as opposed to two, would it not?

[ A frown. As much as he loathes to do this… ]

I would have more information on such strategies, and if this vessel has ever encountered another, and been forced to do battle. I would also know how one can apply their knowledge of ship combat to the Tranquility.

[ And with that, he hastily shuts off the feed, having little else to discuss.

He loathed ignorance. And he would fully cure himself of the affliction ]

Up and down, as well as side to side.

[ arthur seems equally ponderous, now that this fact has been brought to his attention. but then he snaps himself out of it. ]

I'm afraid I'm at as much of a loss as you. As well you know. Which reminds me, I never did get a chance to tell you how I appreciated your assistance upon my arrival.

Hmmm.

[ he disagrees, about the thanks, but gratitude doesn't come easy to arthur and he has no wish to press it upon baratheon. so he turns the topic back to strategy. ]

I suppose some maneuvers would be not dissimilar to battle with an aerial creature?

Don't know if we've run into another ship.

Run into a space station, sure.

But I'd contact Kirk or Spock if you want the specs on the weapons in this place.

Well technically men, yes. Spock is an alien race hybrid thing, I think. But Kirk is just one guy.

[A snort.]

How about you tell me why I should.

I'm no expert, but I'd imagine it's about the same as waging one at sea. [Just... without water.] With less concern about sinking.

Not just four directions. An attack can be brought to bear at any angle. Added to that you've got your targeting computers, tractor beams, proton shields, gravity well projectors. New technology means gaining the upper hand.

As with terrestrial warfare there are some things that will always remain the important. Finance, attrition tactics, psychological warfare, logistics.

And the preference to have to use none of these things, of course.

There are lots of developments that change how the vessel moves - and your opponent's vessel too. Tractor beams can hold a smaller enemy ship in place and draw it closer, gravity well projectors can draw an enemy ship out of hyperspace and pin it down.

Got an interest in warfare, I take it.

I know there are some who come from a time at which such combat is the standard mode. I suspect that at this time, technology is truly necessary - it would be impossible otherwise.
