[ The video opens on the scowling visage of a young man with disheveled, very vibrant orange hair. It’s slightly off-center, and at an upward slanted angle that suggests the comm device is being held in his lap. For a moment, all he does is stare at it. And scowl. The longer he does it, the deeper and more frustrated the scowl becomes before he mutters under his breath. ]

This’s so stupid.

[ He clears his throat and speaks again, this time at a normal volume. His voice is flat, with just the faintest hint of irritation. ]

My name is Kurosaki Ichigo. I arrived three- no, four days ago.

[ He pauses briefly, as though he isn’t sure how to continue. Or maybe he knows and he’s simply trying to choose his words with care. Whatever the case, he works it out quickly enough that his hesitation isn’t particularly noticeable. ]

There’s no way to get in touch with the people back home, right? Or… [ A sigh. ] Does anyone know why we’re here? Or what we’re supposed to do?

[Tali feels that since she's been here for at least one 'cycle', she has a sort of obligation to reply to people asking questions.]

No, there is no way to get in touch with people from back home while you are here. If it's any consolation, though, it doesn't seem as if time passes there while you are here.

[ That makes him blink. ]

Time doesn't pass? How is that -- How do you know?

I had been here for about a month when the ship made another jump. On release from the gravity couches, I recognized some of my crew -- and they claimed to not have been aware of my missing.

They don't know you were gone?

[ A pause. ]

You've been here a month. Is it easier? Dealing with all of this, I mean.

Well, I've lived in space my whole life. I think that probably puts me at an advantage to most people arriving here anyway.

You have? Wow. Have you ever been on a planet before?

Dozens, actually. Maybe hundreds. The discovered galaxy is vast, and the fleet that I traveled with for most of my life made frequent stops.

[Not all of them for entirely unselfish reasons, but... she just won't bring that up.]

Hundreds? Heh. You know, where I'm from, Earth is it. We know there're other planets, but we haven't found any capable of supporting life. Then again, we think cell phones and computers are the height of technology. Show's how much we know, huh?

Once you discover faster-than-light travel, the learning curve for that sort of thing seems to go up.

[He frowned at the frowning boy in the video. He's new here too and has too many questions]

If you get any answers, let us know. I want to get it done and go home already.

Don't worry. Stuff like that isn't something I'd keep to myself.

[ He studies him a moment, then takes a leap an asks. Because he at least looks human, so maybe... ]

Where's home for you?

Good. Finding answers doesn't seem as easy as one might hope either.

[he sighed, seeming frustrated by this stupid situation]

[Ah, but this next questions is a hard one. He looks uncomfortable for a moment. Trying to live on the run is hard to do if you tell a person who you are or where you lived...]

No home, really. I got picked up off Shylos 10 though, I suppose. You? [Someone is still learning that there isn't 78 planets isnt normal for everyone...]

Shylos... Ten?

[ Repeating it doesn't make the name sound any more familiar, and after a pause, Ichigo scratches awkwardly at the back of his neck. ]

Uh, Japan. Karakura, Japan. [ A beat, and then, for clarification's sake; ] On Earth.

[a frown. Yeah, he didn't figure. For some reason most the people around here didn't know where he was from. And "Earth" was... well he knew of Silent Earth but...--he shook his head]

Can't say I know it, but I guess I'm not so surprised.

[ He sighs. Strange as it is to meet people who aren't familiar with Earth, he's starting to think it might be a common occurrence now. ]

Yeah, I don't think I am either. This isn't the first time I've met someone from another world, but... [ A shrug. ] It's the first time I woke up in space.

[Yeah, it's all getting a little common occurrence now, isn't it? The more people he talks to on this tub the more he realizes nothing is normal anymore]

The space thing gets easier with time, I guess. Ever been to another planet though?

Sort of.

[ He shrugs. ]

I've been to other worlds before. Dimensions, I guess they're called. I don't know. You?

Huh, dimensions would be new to me. [what is this conversation...] Me? Planets, yeah. But home was made up of... a bunch of them.

Comes with the job. [ It's offhand. Almost brusque. He's too used to it to think much of it. ] Then you're from another planet? A whole other solar system? What was it like?

Um, yeah...[how to explain... again. He was going to need to get this on record somewhere] Seventy eight planets connected together by keywork energy, sort of... thing. Seems normal to me but I'm finding people find it strange. Ummm, wait, I gotta ask. 'Comes with the job'? What... kind of job deals with dimensions?

Keywork energy? Is that -- What is that?

[ Curious. He's very curious. But, remembering that he's been asked a question, he clears his throat and does his best to answer. ]

Being a shinigami. They make sure souls stuck on Earth get to the afterlife, and they deal with the ones that go bad.

Um, the Keywork is energy that comes off the stars of Sirius. It keeps the planets together. Alive, I guess. You... don't have anything like that back where you're from?

[questions and answers time? It's hard to answer anything and the answers the other are giving are just as weird so... seems even right now]

Shingumi? [yeah, said it wrong. He looks confused] You deal with the dead?

There's the sun. It keeps the planet alive. But probably not like how that energy of yours does.

[ He's fascinated. He can't help it, and doesn't bother trying to hide it. ]

Shinigami, yeah. Have since I was a kid. Saw ghosts, thought I was nuts. Turns out I wasn't.

[ A ghost of a smile crosses her lips then, one perhaps more sympathetic then anything, but a smile nonetheless. ] No one really seems to know that for sure. Ward and Resnick - the only two original members of the ship that is - perhaps might know.

I'm sorry I can't help more beyond that. [ a beat ] Where is your home exactly?

[ The names aren't familiar, but he nods anyway. He'll figure it out. He hopes. ]

It's okay. I mean, it's not like you wake up in a jar of goo every day, right? Unless you do. Uh... [ He shakes his head. ] Japan. Karakura, Japan. On Earth.

How about you?

[ A faint laugh escaped her then, shaking her head no slightly at his words. ] Yeah, the goo was new to me. [ A sigh, nose crinkling as she just considers her next words. ]

Paris - well that was where I was studying until this happened.

What exactly did you do back home? [ This is always a relevant question to her, okay? ]

[ That laugh eases some of his discomfort, makes him feel slightly less awkward about all of this. So does the revelation of where she'd come from. He's never been to Paris, but at least that's Earth. At least he's not completely alone up here.

He smiles, a faint, tentative thing. ]

I'm a student. Or I was a student. Just finishing up my last year of school. Among other things. [ How does he explain being a shinigami to a potentially normal person? Ichigo doesn't know. ] How about you?

[ offering him a small smile, she just nods in understanding at his words. her expression lightening up slightly at it as well. ] What's your major? [ because talking in past tense about being it seemed like a dismal idea to her, as she clearly felt she would be back home someday. ]

College student myself - Architecture actually. [ a slightly cocky smile appears then, as she is someone that could go on and on about architecture and she was rather proud of it. but clearly she wasn't here to talk about herself, so she quickly is adding: ] Do you remember what you were doing right before you got here?

Biology. Medicine. I wanted to be a doctor.

[ Just like his dad. But that opens up the "what's happening to my family right now?" conundrum and he can't go there. So he shakes his head and focuses on the matter at hand. ]

Yeah. I'd just gotten home. I was going to take a nap. Then I woke up in the tube of goo. What about you? What were you doing?

[ medicine, huh. we could always use someone like that around here. (she'll just be making a mental note of this fact though)

a small nod of her head in understanding at what he does, offering him a ghost of a smile, as she seriously assumes they will all be home after this. AND HE CAN STILL BE A DOCTOR. ] It's odd how random it seems to be. [ a shrug of her shoulder, and her nose is crinkling in quick thought. ] There doesn't seem to be a set pattern to any of it. We all seemed to be completely random.

I was actually on my way to visit a friend in the states. [ it's sort of the truth. as she isn't about to get into what she was actually doing. ]

Have you found anything interesting yet? [ yes, she will change the divert the subject back away from herself then. she is rather curious on details with him after all. ]

If there is such a way, we have not encountered it. Though it appears there are many crew positions open, if you have the free time to fill them.

Something tells me I've got all the time in the world. Spaceship. Whatever.

You know what they need? I can do a lot of things.

Nearly the entire crew disappeared in the initial jump we experienced. Positions available vary from agriculture all the way to security. Really, it is merely that you find your niche.

My niche, huh? I don't know what that is. What do you do here?

Perhaps you should consider what talents you possess and then make a selection based upon that. As for myself, I was a speaker of sorts back on Alternia. I believe my gifts are best suited to this science called psychology.

Alternia? That's the place you're from?

I'm from Japan. I was going to go to school to be a doctor, but I didn't get that far. I can fight, though. That's probably my best skill. Think that'd be useful here?

It is and contrasts quite sharply with this Earth I keep hearing of. I believe I would enjoy seeing it, if such a thing were possible.

Well, Kurosaki, there are those here specialized in the medical field. If it is of interest to you, then I am sure that someone would pass on their knowledge. As for the rest? There are several other humans who would be interested in your skills.

Yeah? Great. Now I just have to find them. This place is huge. Unless that's normal for spaceships? I don't know. First time on one and all.

For starters, Earth seems far more peaceful than Alternia. Humans are also diurnal. The sun on Alternia could very well cause a troll to go blind if one were to stare directly at it, unless you are a Jade blood.

I apologize, as this is the first time I have been on a ship as well. A space ship, that is.

We can't look at the sun either. Well, we can, but it'll ruin our eyes if we do. But you said about us being diurnal. Does that mean you can only go outside at night?

Hey, don't apologize. It's not your fault. We're both in this stupid mess together.

As we are nocturnal? Yes. This could be largely in part due to being hatched in the subterranean levels of our planet.

Stupid mess? I am not sure how stupid it really is. We do not know why this is happening, actually.

That's part of what makes it stupid. We can't do whatever it is we were brought here to do if we don't know what it is.

Now who is to say that we were brought here for a specific role?

Why else would we be brought here? I don't know about you, but I didn't choose to come here. I didn't even know there was a here until I woke up in that thing.

Believe me, I would rather be with those that I care deeply for. While I do acknowledge that the disappearance of the original crew and our arrival are linked, I doubt that there is true purpose to it. A young human girl seems to think otherwise.
