Tranquility.

[ It's with a warm sort of politesse that Petyr addresses the network this time around, a crimson sash draped over one of his shoulders and a new set of robes upon his frame. Visible next to him, at the fringe of the image, is a girl with chestnut brown hair and her hands folded in her lap, who should prove familiar to at least some upon the ship. ]

I inquired some months ago as to the existence of a physical library, and was informed that the ship lacked such a facility. As such, I have taken it upon myself to begin one for the sake of those who would prefer the feel of a solid page than the, ah. Furnishings that the ship provides. My collection is meager, but it is more than what was available upon my arrival. Should you care to take advantage of it, I can be found upon the fifth level, next to the quarters that Alayne Stone — [ at the mention, the girl sitting next to him smiles prettily and offers up a wave ] — keeps as a seamstress. She has offered her help in my endeavor, to care for the books in my absence.

That said, should you be willing to part with them, we would greatly appreciate any spare books that you might have. This service is without charge, and meant simply for the comfort of those upon the ship.

I have taken the liberty of attaching the list of the books collected so far, and hope that some of you, at least, will find some use in it.

[ And, with a duck of his head, the feed cuts out. ]

I have need of nothing. I have shelter, food, weapons and clothing. I have company when I talk to you, or when I check the network. [ A beat. Rosella is, in her own fashion, reconsidering. Alayne is being odd again, but Rosella now has a conversation to think back on: a point of reference. It's a start and a quiet way of backtracking.

At length: ] If it is a sign of friendship, I cannot refuse it. [ Another pause. ] Are you sure you wish to do this, Alayne? I understand you have an affinity for animals that I do not, such as your fondness for your wolf.

Not all signs of friendship need be accepted, Rosella. Especially if you are not fond of birds. I thought— [ Alayne seems chastised. It makes her look young. ] I thought because you might favor them, because of your name.

No. [ Immediate. Unlike previous, there's a quiet hesitance before she explains her abruptness. ] I have never had another in my care. I am not sure I would do well, and I do not want to disappoint you or harm it.

[ Then, a flat smile, small and slight. ] I like birds more than wolves. By that notion, I am very fond of them.

[ A hesitance means something, though Alayne does not know what. It does not surprise her that Rosella has never cared for another, though she keeps that to herself. ] I do not wish to burden you needlessly. The offer, made in good faith, is now rescinded — equally so.

Do you trouble yourself with it any longer. I offered too readily. [ A pause, and then remembering: ] I am not disappointed.

[ Rosella does not ask if Alayne is sure. These things, when given, are never to be doubted. Answers are answers. She will listen to Alayne Stone.

Slowly: ] One day, if I offer you something, perhaps we can exchange then. I am aware you are not fond of this, but there is no recieving without giving in return, and I do not wish for you to lack while I gain. Please.

[ It tickles Alayne that Rosella says please; no, it fills her with something not unlike satisfaction. Although the request is made awkwardly, it is still a request. A want from a girl who supposedly has none. ]

No, you speak truly. Though some things are given in goodness, there is little that is given without the promise of return. And though I would hope we shall overcome such tallying of debts one day, it shall serve us for now.

We shall exchange, you and I. Does that satisfy you?

Yes, Alayne. [ Yes, Verona; Yes, Miss Red; Yes, Operative Tyke. There are few things that cannot be built on the back of a yes. ] Thank you.

[ Alayne knows she should be unnerved. Such obedience and such beauty and such blankness, all in one place. She must never fall into Littlefinger's hands, she thinks. He would raze cities, if he were so inclined. (Luckily for them all, Littlefinger no longer calls on Alayne and it is she who holds the pitch and sway of Petyr's attention. Otherwise— gods help them all.) ]

You're quite welcome, Rosella. Tell me the means why which father and I may repay you, when you have estimated the cost of your book. Then, we shall make proper barter.
