3rd fright | audio | A good scare is worth more to a man than good advice.

A friendly reminder that lest we wind up like the body the gentleman found earlier, it would be wise to keep an eye on each other.

We wouldn't want anything terrible to happen, would we? I certainly wouldn't.

[ There's a significant delay between his message going out and Heather's response. Crane is the one person on the ship who knows everything about what's happened to her. She lost track of him - seems like everybody did, for a while - and now here he is, sounding completely unlike himself.

Or unlike how she's used to hearing him, at least. ]

Doctor Crane? where have you been?

What can I say? I'm a trooper.

[ It's wry, dry, and he certainly won't need to see her face to know she's pulling one. ]

What about you, Doc? Been under the radar for a while. A girl could start to worry.

[ Altercations has her frowning, but then he continues and -

are you sassing her, Doctor? In spite of the fact that she hasn't quite decided whether she's concerned or suspicious, the sound of her laughter comes bubbling down over the feed. ]

You're a big boy, you can do what you like. I just wouldn't wanna think you were wasting your talents.

[ Another pause, because last she heard? Crane was a candidate for the nuthatch himself. Then again, Simon had been pretty damn crazy when Tillman had dumped him at her door, and he was back to his old self by now. Better than his old self, actually, though it's not like she's gonna admit that to him. And hey, if Crane's not on top form yet, maybe it'll help him. Some days she thinks having the gardens to focus on is all that's keeping her from cracking up herself. ]

That's - that'd be good. I don't see this place running out of crazy to throw at us anytime soon.
